    Maybe I'm teh crazies but I remember yoshi or someone in a written interview mention that they want you to be able to see what gear looks like on your character without buying / obtaining it. But like I said maybe I'm somehow imagining that.

    i remember hearing that but that was so long ago not sure if that would be added in the game just yet.
