Nice! I'd completely missed that poll.well but at least you could say "i want something in that direction, if you dont like those existing races"i dont think that yoshida wants to introduce an existing race.
here my poll, which i created long long time ago about different types of races:
Which-new-races-would-you-like-the-most-for-FFXIV-2.0.?
I kinda like the Burmecians, too.. Although they seem somewhat reminiscent of Qiqirns... Though I like Qiqirns as well, so go figure.
Except that he named Viera in the player poll, he is clearly under the impression that western players want Viera as a new race. There is no mention of "rabbit-like" there is only the term Viera being mentioned which is somewhat infuriating as it has become a bandwagon.well but at least you could say "i want something in that direction, if you dont like those existing races"i dont think that yoshida wants to introduce an existing race.

However I digress, people on the whole aren't asking for "something a bit like this" at all they are asking for xyz from other FF games. There is only so much recycling of stuff from previous FF games that people will tolerate before it becomes seen as just SE being lazy.
Your poll is just more of that unimaginative nonsense, those are not new races they are races from other FF games.

I dunno. Still sounds weird for me.
We're supposed to be at war with the beast tribes, and Bangaas look a lot like beastmen.
That's why I think that until that lore is resolved, we should only get humanoid races.

Goblins in XI (also a beastman tribe) would kill you as quick as look at you. Yet there were many who were friendly, ran shops, etc.
In XII, Bangaa were mostly friendly but there were some villainous ones as well.
As long as the game immediately establishes them as "not an enemy race" - as in making them a playable option and having them scattered about in towns, cities, etc as friendly NPCs, any confusion would be immediately wiped away.
And, let's just say they go the Viera route.. Who's to say they couldn't be introduced as a rather vicious enemy race? What a race looks like, and what role they play in a given game's setting is not etched in stone. Something can be "cute but deadly" just as much as it can be "homely but friendly". Just look at the Roegadynn... (I kid.. I kid... >.>)
I think folks might be overstating the "beastly looking race = enemy" thing a bit.
As was suggested by Mudd in the other thread, it could be introduced as an entirely new race who dwells far in the S. and is granted "contact" with us thanks to Bahamut's rampage.
It would be in a future expansion, so there's plenty of time for the lore to be worked out as well.

Don't make me remember goblins XI ; . ; so mean
WEEEEEEEEELLLLLLLLLL, yeah. I guess you're right. In XII, Bangaa were mostly friendly but there were some villainous ones as well.

There are many ways to approach it lore-wise too. Not every beasmen tribe needs to be summoning crap lol
So I guess it would be alright. Although I do like Nu Mous better :x

While I certainly wouldn't mind new races added to FF14, I can't say the Bangaa would be my first choice.
As far as the use of developmental resource, I think there another angle to look at, as FF11/14 is a bit different than most other MMOs in this regard. To be specific, in 11/14 our characters are not limited to a single class/job, so most player's in-game progression tends to be focused on a single main character, as opposed to multiple characters with different classes like in other MMOs.
This has a direct impact on the utilization of additional playable race added down the road, while they are great for new players, they are likely to see considerably less use amongst the established player base. While it certainly doesn't mean that no new races should be added, it does change the value proposition a bit.

Good points. Though, it's clear that they intend to introduce a new playable race and, to date, Yoshi-P's indicated a toss-up between something Viera-like which seems to be the favored option among "overseas players" (as he put it), or a more beast-like, reptilian race, which is more his preference. While I certainly wouldn't mind new races added to FF14, I can't say the Bangaa would be my first choice.

Unless they completely change their mind and don't introduce anything at all, we're going to get a new race. So, I started the thread just to say "okay, well, what might be some options? Here's my suggestion"
I happen to think Bangaa, or something similar to them, would add a nice variety to the playable races, and would bring a nice new element to the game overall.
Who knows? A completely new and unique 3rd option might come out of it...

I think they could solve the Viera thing pretty quick if they would just add bunny ears and a fluffy tail option to miqotes before the launch of ARR. That would please the fans and they wouldn't need to make an entirely different race.

Hell.. just make them vanity slot items :-p

A Halloween event item, no one ever dresses up in scary stuff anyway. Sexy bunny costumes for everyone!
It would be like the reindeer suits all over again...
(Bah, just reminded myself of the possibility of reindeers running all over the place with the introduction of vanity slots.)
