Read the following in Sokuy's thread:Does that mean we will be able to have armor for looks and armor for functionality as separate things? I thought they were against that?Vanity items still class restricted (no heavy armor mages)

Yes, this was confirmed a while ago. It might not make it in time for launch though.
I for one look forward to it.
I love the Bard AF, but am not so much of a fan of the "optimal" gear needed for hitting stat caps.
Confirmed, and it sounds exactly like what we (most people seemed to agree) requested...vanity system that stays true to class restrictions and disabled in PVP
Yey. I was disappointed when they said before that they dont want it, but im very happy now.
DRG AF armor is very badass (VERY) but it just does not cut it for those people who are looking for max stats.
Glad there adding now can change to gear that looks good to me![]()
I don't agree with it being disabled in PVP. If classes are still restricted to their armor types, then what is the harm? It's not like a mage can trick you into thinking they have heavy armor on.
True, but I think people would still be able to see what you are wearing, and there'd be a difference between "Oh we got DRG AF on, i got this" vs "Shit, he has Full Darklight"
* The sad thing is that FFXIV turned RDM into a turret, and people think that's what it's supposed to be. It's supposed to combine sword and magic into something more, not spend the bulk of gameplay spamming spells and jump into melee for only 3 GCDs before scurrying back to the back line like good little casters.
* Design ideas:
Red Mage - COMPLETE (https://tinyurl.com/y6tsbnjh), Chemist - Second Pass (https://tinyurl.com/ssuog88), Thief - First Pass (https://tinyurl.com/vdjpkoa), Rune Fencer - First Pass (https://tinyurl.com/y3fomdp2)
As opposed to the "Oh, just a rainmaker" yet it's triple melded? It's the same argument people had for the PvE side of things. People are going to check their opponent regardless of what they are wearing.
