I feel silly starting a thread about this tiny issue, but
W...why?! I don't care if it's in speech bubbles or not, but can't it also show up in our log? Or can't we have a special log filter for it? My eyes often go back to the log to check things NPCs said...
If you played FFXI, think of it like that, popping up in one spot only, NPC chat will pop up in your overall chat log. In XIV 1.0 it popped up in your chat log and their own dialog box..in ARR it won't be in both, just it's own little bubble.
I don't remember since it's been a while, but in FF11 it went directly to the log, right? Which means I could scroll back through it. This sounds like it'll be a bubble that will go away after I've read it.
I agree with u buddy. Sometimes I'm distracted by some things, got a phone, or door bell and then I forget what the whoel chat was all about or Im very tired and realise I dont know what ive just read or it contained some ancient english and I had to check dictionary (srsly the chat can get very confusing if you dont know all the words, and u really gotta read all that again), endless possibilities. But I could always scroll back and read it again and I really approved of it~! Also sometimes ppl rush u to go thru cutscenes, yes u can rewatch cutscenes, but u cant reread what NPC said, so in these situations I just screenshotted the chat and had no problems with that whatsoever.
Some ppl dont care but it should be an option beacause - why not? To some of us it could be very helpful.

It might be they they were talking about the NPC dialogue that pops up when you walk by. At least I hope so. Need more clarification.
You're right. I was thinking about it, and wouldn't cutscenes look kind of silly if speech bubbles were popping up during them? I understand it for regular NPCs, but they might go some other option for cutscenes. So yeah, I guess we'll see how it turns out.
I always thought it was kind of stupid NPC dialogue showed in chat log and in the NPC chat bubble in the middle of the screen. It was possible to miss chat from other players and linkshells then. It also just looked untidy.
I have two thoughts on the matter. First, I think people will get used to NPC dialog not appearing in the chat log. It's something we all are used to in single player games (there is no chat log in almost all single player RPGs). It has some inconveniences, but if you're interested in the story, you'll probably be taking the extra effort to give the dialog your undivided attention, and if you're not, you can just look up the general info in your quest journal.
Secondly, as a matter of fact, all of the true CSs already had dialog in "chat bubbles", or rather subtitles. But either way, Having CS text appear only outside of the log is not actually something new.
the journal pretty much gives you the general rundown of what has been said, so if you missed it i'm sure you could look there.
I think this is just for random npc dialog. Like when you approach npc are chatting or so. For quest i hope its on the log.
Save the Earth. It's the only planet with video games.
