    Config utility crash

Any time I run "FINAL FANTASY XIV Config" and do the following:
    1. Switch language dropdown to English
    2. Click the "General" button
    3. Make some changes (or do nothing)
    4. Click the "OK" button
I get a Windows error report saying "ffxivconfig.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close." None of my changes are persisted.

This is pretty annoying, as I hate playing in windowed mode. I'm assuming my system specs would be useful, but I'm not sure how to submit them.

    Do this:

    -Open FFXIV config
    -Hit General
    -Font Settings
    -Check "Use Windows system font"
    -Choose a font! *Edited
    -Hit Okay and save

    -Open FFXIV config again.
    -Font Settings
    -Uncheck Use Windows System Font
    -Ok and save

    It shouldn't crash after that.

Also, you get your system specs by clicking the "System Information" button in the FFXIV config utility, then Copy to Clipboard.

Thanks for your reply. Unfortunately, it crashes no matter what I do. Even if I literally do nothing -- just click General, then click OK -- it crashes. Also, I didn't mean I don't know how to find my system info, I just mean I don't know where to send it. It didn't seem useful to spam the forum with it; is there a bug reporting feature?

If my above suggestion doesn't work, you should probably try re-installing the game.

The forum is the best place for your system information when you're using the Tech Support forums. But I would hesitate to label your situation a "bug" before discovering the cause. It's likely just a minor technical problem.

Make sure you run it as administrator.

This is XP (and I do have admin privileges, though I usually hear about that type of problem under vista or 7). And if the solution is to re-install, you'll have a hard time convincing me not to call it a bug.

Here's the rest of my system info.

Have to ask again, did you even try my first recommendation?

All of the cases I've seen where the config utility crash upon exit were fixed by this.

If the solution is to re-install, that means something went wrong during your install and you have a corrupt file somewhere. Even if you submit a bug report about this, it will be passed off an an isolated incident and not investigated any further. But you're more than welcome to do so.

Also make sure you didn't accidentally change any other setting in your config. You should have Display 1 as your main device

Yes, I tried changing the font settings by checking the "Use Windows system font" checkbox and changing nothing else, right after you suggested it. The same crash happened.

However(!) After playing around with it a little more just now, I discovered that if I check that checkbox and select a font from the first dropdown, I can now click OK and save the configuration successfully.

How is it an isolated incident if you've seen multiple cases of it?? If the dev team dismisses this issue (open the config options, don't change anything, click OK, it crashes) as "not a bug", then I think I know why this game has gotten such bad reviews.

Thanks for taking the time to help me out.

Glad you got it working. I'll have to add that to the list of steps above, in case someone else sees this thread.

It would have been an isolated incident if changing the font settings didn't resolve it. The font settings problem is actually a known issue that SE posted on the lodestone at one point. It is a bug.
