That's exactly the matter. The backlash about this phase hopefully will encourage SE to keep to the rules they stated themselves for the next.

This is what I am hoping for, but nothing has been proven or has been set in stone. Out of the many applicants who have applied for the alpha test, have got chosen. We were just some of the unlucky ones, or maybe we just have a better chance at getting into a more complete testing phase where we can test out the content that matches our interests on the test application. That would seem to be more likely and fit for the situation.
