i'm confused, how do ppl know that non-active accounts are getting invites? Even though the MODs and the alpha entry page states only active accounts are allowed?

Well, lots of people who were in 1.0 (not even alpha) wanted to shoot themselves.People raging or whining about this are fucking insane.
Its like getting mad that you didn't win a contest.
Also, who cares if you don't get selected for a two weeks aging test? Geez, only two races are available even. Alphas suck balls. I was in 1.0's and I wanted to shoot myself in the face.
As for not winning, im upset, but i just gonna have to hope for the next time :-)
The only thing im actually most upset about

When an allegation is untrue and you stand on solid ground, all you have to do is to post an official statement saying that it's untrue, effectively placing the burden of proof on the accuser. Going around deleting whole threads definitely doesn't give the right signal on that kind of issue.
On the contrary, it hoists exactly the wrong set of signal flags.
I'm rather neutral in this subject, as I don't blindly believe that SE invited people that didn't have active accounts (I consider it possible, but that's rather far from surety). Seeing the thread about it swept under the rug does SE no favors, and puts me a step closer to believing the allegation.

How is..
Saying anything about Non-actives getting in?- Must currently have an active FINAL FANTASY XIV account

Everyone shooting the messenger poor kitty.
There are posts on the fansite forums from people who said they've gotten in without an active account. There were also posts on these forums from people who said they applied without having any active characters at the time (thus not having an active account).
It was speculated that the wording on the application site didn't in fact mean that people had to be playing at the time to be qualified to apply or receive an invite but rather that they had to have an XIV account registered on their SE account (which means that they at least have played the game in the past).
Edit: Personally I don't really think current XIV players would be somehow better qualified to (stress) test ARR and I'm sure anyone who went through the trouble of filling the test application can't be completely unmotivated to do the testing.

They're just QQing that they didn't get in, and people in that state tend to believe wild theories to soothe their injured egos. How is..

As for deleting threads, ever though about them simply removing the duplicates, since there is already a thread about the same topic?

I'm sure not shooting. Even if the allegations were true, I seriously doubt our community reps had any part in the blunder (while they can relay the feedback to those that did). Just giving a friendly reminder.
Again, all they have to do is to deny such wild theories officially. I'll definitely believe whatever they say unless I'm shown conclusive evidence of the contrary.
But deleting the thread that includes the complaint gives me all kinds of bad singnals. I would also mention that by taking it upon yourself to take a confrontational stance with those that are dissatisfied in the presence of a potentially serious PR blunder, you do SE no favors.
That's why a moderator has the "lock" button, which is what has been used in previous, equivalent cases. Mind you, that thread was no duplicate, as it asked about a very specific issue, that wasn't included in the others, that are generic complaints about not being invited. As for deleting threads, ever though about them simply removing the duplicates, since there is already a thread about the same topic?
Again, the "climbing mirrors" metaphor comes to mind.
