The thing is that will be a flag on my account, not the database which is remaining intact until after beta (I would imagine) however the application could go in, then when they run the selection script, that checks whether the account is active or inactive, rather than when the application is submitted.

As I already stated (and as others did) inactive accounts were bounced during the first few days in which the form was available, so no, it doesn't work like that.

Another interesting detail is that this issue seems to be absolutely limited to the western community. It did not happen in Japan. I follow both the Japanese press and the community actively and I found no reference to it anywhere, and knowing the Japanese community, if it did happen to them, at least 2chan would have gone up in flames and people would have started using Yoshi's picture for target practice.

Mind you, they probably still will if they catch wind that it happened for the US and Europe, as they'll be much less willingly than us to accept that people with inactive accounts were accepted, wherever thy com from.

They are *extremely* perfectionist about this kind of mistake.

Maybe in the first few days, but apparently not now, possibly as I think it was you said, them opening the servers to everyone for the final event messing things up, therefore they may have had to add a line to the selections script. Everyone is saying "inactives are getting in" "inactives are getting applications accepted" the latter might be true but there is no evidence for the former, except the super trustworthy random guy on the net saying his inactive got in.

If this is not true the why is everyone feeling so entitled, if inactives are not getting in why all the butthurt, people believe inactives are getting in, a messed up script possibly but I do not believe anything unless I see the evidence....

Very possible. In which case the right thing to do is to own up to the mistake and apologize, instad of deleting threads.

"entitled" is becoming a catchphrase on the internet, randomly applied to those that have a different stance on things. People feel "entitled" to have a chance to the beta while those that didn't have an active account shouldn't, because the rules that SE made stated so.

If inactives are not getting in, the right thing to do is to post an official statement denying the allegation, instead of just trying to sweep it under the rug when everyone already saw it and it's all over other forums.

Have to define active / inactive first. There was another post that made it clear (not a rep most). All you have to do is have had an active session with FFXIV in the past to be included into the poll. So active once counts (people who joined played shortly and then left are in).

That post is just a rather disingenuous attempt to justify the problem. Initially the system automatically bounced out inactive accounts (IE: people that couldn't play the game).

Playing with terminology is rather moot when "inactive" and "active" account have just one very precise meaning in the pay to play MMO industry (or in every industry that requires the payment of periodic fees to access a service). It's not open to interpretation.

More than likely, the App selection process went like this:

Q1 - A + C = through
Q2 - B + D = through
Q3 - A + D = through

All the way through the final question.

Then, the whittled down number of applicants are reviewed based on Age, Experience, Location and PC Specs

Finally, the QA Public Testing Lead will review the Remaining Applicants eliminating people based on the way they Post, The way they Play, and their Reputation. People who have Alpha Tested for SE before will certainly have priority. People who were obnoxious in the first Alpha will be immediately excluded.

Alpha Testers are not random people thrown at a game. They are selected in a way that will maximize the effectiveness of the Desired Tests.

Exactly. Especially the part about reviewing what the user posts and their overall reputation, no one will go that far to get a body for the stress test. They might mark down people who act inappropriately though, like if you were banned before for something, chances are you get filtered. But all the measures are automatic, no one wants to read thousands of applications to select from.

Lol your hiding behind the NDA and asking for proof that can't be given. How bout you prove they weren't? People who got in won't post about it so all that can be gone off of is what our friends that got in say. Its the only proof there is either way. Proof has been given that inactives could apply, which is against what most of us thought SE said. Now since you are calling everyone a liar, prove that inactives didn't get in. Don't hide beyond the NDA knowing full well no one is going to just go like o Ya I got in!

Pretty much this, SE should know at least who enter on the forum to check it, idk, maybe when someone log on. I know 2 guys that got alpha invite and both don't know there were a forum here...

Also, not QQing now, just sad .
