SE consider a free to play option

I do think FF XIV could be successful as a free to play game. I feel bad for the FF fans that will have to pass on this game due to not being able to pay a subscription fee.

I don't think its about not being able to pay, its about paying to play after buying the game that might turn them away. I see it discussed a lot on gaming websites, especially console users. They can change their minds depending on game reviews and with a 30 day trial though.

wheres the income to the company is the game is ftp... a PTP model is something steady so investors will still invest in the company... and to keep paying a subscription gives a chance for S-E to push content out faster because they can have a profit to pay their workers and do a little bit extra... OH SURE GUILDWARS 2 HUR DUR... yeh it was an over hyped peice of garbage but millions of people bought the damn thing... arenanet was set on overhyped box sells... and then they make their money on the cash shop... -face palm- Its why I stay away from FTP games...

No thanks. I am happy to give SE my money in this case. Because they deserve it with FFXIV :P

I am sure they keep up the hard work on this game even after it's release and I wouldn't be sure about that if this was a F2P game.

I think it is to soon to say. I think Yoshi might consider it in a few years because realistically its to premature to think about it now imo. It depends if the game can attract a lot of players to pay, but if it fails they might have to change to plan B.

SECOULDadd trial periods. Like those who own the game could invite their friends to play for free for like 3Days. (Just have a Trial Period where you can play upto lv10. or something.) Other than that no.

No thanks. F2P isn't the best model for a MMORPG. It's the last model to save a game.
FFXIV don't need it.

There was a article about this. Here's what Yoshida said.

“The last thing is that our aim is to make an MMO,” Yoshida continued, “and a lot of companies do their development for MMOs by getting money from investors. Then the investors want their money back, so if the game doesn’t make enough money or doesn’t have enough users, then what do we do?

“We’d have to pay our investors back, and free-to-play is an option to get that money back to investors quickly. Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn is a product that is independent to Square-Enix. All of the money’s coming from us, so we had more time to put it into what we wanted to do. We’re not in a rush to pay anyone back.”

So it's not gonna go free to play.
