How do you know it is not realistic? Do you know the size/mass of the planet? The gravity ratios? This might be purely natural on the fantasy planet that is completely made up.
PS: Magic....

You could roughly find all that information out :P. Also we could logically gander general similarities to Earth by how birds fly and airships work. In FFXIV 2.0 we can also use female bust and bounce to calculate the extent of gravity..lol
I dont like "magic" as the response at least in basic response. Some made up bullshit always settles better for me, like when reading a fantasy book they hardly ever say "becuz..." but rather spend a few paragraphs to pages talking about the nature of whats going on.
I really do think the animations are impractical but without animation blending I'm not sure how much you could improve it and not have it look worse in different ways.
@Tent jumping - invisible walls = standing on tent, both are bleh. But I'd rather be able to stand on a tent then be blocked from landing somewhere it looks I can land.
Though I said before just make the top of the tent slide you off, so if you land on it you slide off like snowboarding or something.
Ya, my post was kinda facetious. It just bugs me that people make all these exceptions for magic, monsters and teleportation yet they can't seem find ways to explain away the height and length of jump, which is what I was commenting on.
@tent stuff: big deal. why not add in a "climb" button and skill to get that immersion just right. its gone too far as the OP suggested. besides if they add fabric movements to compensate for the weight of the person on the tent, it will be very difficult to account for more than just one person. invisible wall? if you insist. i just dont understand why that bugs you soooo much.
@extra animations: i would be for that as long as it does not slow down the reaction time of the chr's. IE, running, two step stop, quick breath catching, drawing sword, taking little steps to turn around, swivel hips, head, focus on bad guy, begin to swing, then dead cause it took to long. i'm not saying this will be the case but are you really going to notice it when you are in a group of 8 players running through a dungeon?
Its nitpicky stuff that i do hope they consider but in the end, its the gameplay that makes a game succeed, not the pretty graphics. case in point FFVII and the popeye Cloud arms, WoW and its very cartoonish graphics that are a jarring disconnect from their CG scenes, Old school Mario. All very successful games, yet here we are (myself included) commenting a 1000th of a second slide or not shuffling feet when camera turns.
Animation blending is in :O, I was so worried lol. I really hope at the point they include blening they include the turning animations or allow them to be options. But its good news for all animations
- Animations
- 3 animations for taking damage, different animation depending on damage taken
- Final motion blending animations are not implemented in the alpha. [this should calm down a lot of people, including myself]
- Beta will introduce some, but not all animation blending.
What exactly is animation blending?
Animation blending takes two existing animations and mixes on the fly according to the scenario - say if you are running and jumping the animation could look different then if you where walking and jumping as it would bind two different animations together. (You can do more then one animation at a time).
Animation blending will help a lot in combat so when you are attacking but then go to use a weapon skill your character doesn't look like he resets and instead its all carried out in one fluid motion. Or like when running and then you stop suddenly you can have it blend into a stand rather then just suddenly jolt up right.
There are other aspects like physics to animation (turning so sharp changes animation) that aren't necessarily animation blending but they are usually (and I hope) put together.
Interesting thanks for that. Yoshi-P has noted iirc Physics haven't been placed into the Alpha yet either so this combined with that should hopefully alleviate the running/jump issues a lot of people (including myself in regards to the running) have.Animation blending takes two existing animations and mixes on the fly according to the scenario - say if you are running and jumping the animation could look different then if you where walking and jumping as it would bind two different animations together. Let me respond with this then. Do you really think that thousands of dollars, or hundreds of thousand of dollars should be wasted on a stupid tent, or focused on core mechanics that deal with every day gameplay? You could roughly find all that information out :P. Also we could logically gander general similarities to Earth by how birds fly and airships work. In FFXIV 2.0 we can also use female bust and bounce to calculate the extent of gravity..lol

hundreds of thousands of dollars to use a system they already have to play an animation (sliding) and to make a small set of code that pushes a character off a tent.. lololololol
Not even really needed to make an animation for sliding the character- it would just look better. Anyway, it wouldn't cost even a thousand. Might cost a few hundred though depending on what resources they have sitting around and what scripts are already in their code.
How do you know this for sure? Please do tell.hundreds of thousands of dollars to use a system they already have to play an animation (sliding) and to make a small set of code that pushes a character off a tent.. lololololol
