Honestly I don't care about being able to jump onto a tent period. Just stating my vote and opinion.
    Having said that...

I notice the people who nitpick and complain the very tiniest things usually don't have anything good to say at all about Alpha video or other things in general. All they do is usually complain and look out for anything to complain and nitpick to the tiniest speck of a sand... (example jump isn't like real life jump...)
I think those people are ungrateful and in some way superficial on the surface type.

Santa Clause: Ho ho ho, Here's a present for you.

Girl: Oooh a present how cool!

Santa Clause: Open it. What do you think?

Girl: *opens present and find out she got a barbie doll* says, "But her nose is too big and her boobs are too small"

Santa Clause: Shut up and accept it! */leaves and vanished*

Aside from drawing attention to your character in a way to say "Hey! Look at me! I'm jumping!" *hop hop hop hop hop* I don't really see where the benefit of jumping comes into play. Are there going to be locations that can't be reached unless you jump? Are we going to be able to jump off of high places and then get hurt? I did that in WoW once, it was awesome until I hit the bottom and got dead.

I think jumping does cheapen the game's experience. I've only ever liked jumping when it was in like a first person game like Mirror's Edge or something where your character had to do some platforming gameplay to collect objects or jump between buildings to catch a guy with a gun. I also don't know why mounts need to jump, but I suppose of characters can jump and there are reasons for jumping to get places, mounts that can't jump would not be able to get over the same obstacles.

I can't wait to jump and still find the jump height a bit too high.
Half the height should be good, no jump on another people heads ^^

You didn't play during the first launch? ^^
Jump is good to overcome obstacles like fence, a stone in the way, a knee high cliff and much more obstacles.

Yes I see how people standing on a tent is a problem, but since this is a FANTASY game, how about we give that tent a bit of lore:
During the 6th umbral era that tent was given the power to withstand millions of people jumping up and down on it to withstand the adventurers that would one day come across its path.

    your welcome

In case no one has said this before, the god damn game director has stressed, several fucking times, that realism IS something the team strives for, and something the FF series has been known for. So, before you post something like "this is a fantasy game", acknowledge the fact that your opinion is void of any basic observation skills and your reasoning is flawed to say the least, read what the team says on the forum so that you can avoid senseless replies.

They want realism, not reality, so stuff like "the speed of light isn't right" bears no relevance. Realism is subjective, in the sense that you can perceive more or less than others, and therefore you will be convinced more easily than others that something is or is not real. To some, this game looks realistic, to others, not so much. To some, jumping on a piece of cloth and having it react like concrete is unrealistic, to others it's just "I'm on top of a tent, cool" before they can actually realize the tent is not supposed to react that way, if they ever do on their own (i didn't).

Now, if this is a subjective topic, then how do we decide what's best? We don't. SE does, and in fact it already has, by making the world way more realistic than most of us players would need it to be in order to believe in it, or enjoy it. What we can do is provide feedback. So, if you enjoy it, just say so. If you don't, say so too. This is the only way SE can react on its choices and in case it decides to do something "controversial" it will know how the community is reacting to it. Because we do expect something from this game, and their decisions cannot be random. Thus realism is something we expect, and when it's broken, it needs at least a good reason.

So stop trying to pull convincing arguments out of your ass as if you can somehow justify your personal opinion on a subjective topic. State if you like or dislike it, and why, and be on your way. That's useful. The rest isn't.

First off, I think you need to chill out.

However you must realize that this is a game and there are certain limitations they are working with, especially for an MMO. Every single object not reacting "realistically" is one of those things, especially when you're talking about cloth. Having it bend and tear would be a completely unrealistic request for a game like this, at least at this point.

Putting up magic invisible barriers around the top of the tent is just as unrealistic as having magic invisible forces hold the tent up while people are on top of it.

Well actually discussing this on THESE forums is pretty useless. I mean if we were on the alpha/beta forums then they may be a little more inclined to listen. Here we're giving "feedback" on something we've never actually gotten our hands on. However topics like this are, in my opinion, silly. Asking them to change something that's really fairly inconsequential in the grand scheme of the game. It's not like there's some grand quest line involving jumping around on tents. It's something that players can choose to do or not, at no benefit or cost to anyone.

I want them to put an NPC and some important story cut scene on top of that tent now.

NPC Asks you to stand on tent.

    You stand on Tent.

    Player is bewilderd.

Player goes below inside the tent.

Player finds hundreds of moogles beating their wings and pushing their soft bodies against the leather ceiling.

Player goes back on top and stands on moogles. Win.

I feel like you are arguing with yourself in this post.

Also....its jumping. It is really hard to take this community seriously when they make a giant thread complaining about jumping on top of a tent.
