The massive chunks revealed kinda seems to defeat the purpose. In open areas it may not be to bad but in a dungeon it could show too much at a time I think.Am I the only one slightly dissapointed that unfurling the map happens in MASSIVE chunks?
Eh I guess I should take what I can get though it encourages people to explore the maps at least. (I'm just worried that simply getting to a aether plaza of the area will bassically reveal the entire area around it making it not actually encourage exploration but just reveal the map as people hopscotch to aether nodes.
Each chunk seems to be completely customizable in its shape, so a dungeon would probably reveal one room at a time, depending on what the designers want to do. One reason a huge chunk of the map is revealed in the video is because he crossed the corner of two chunks really quickly. I think they should probably make you go more towards the middle of a chunk before revealing it, that way you both find yourself always traveling a little into the unknown (which seems fun) and the other is it prevents you from stumbling upon the four corners of four huge chunks and suddenly revealing the whole map.
Another thing I hope is only field maps do this and that dungeon maps require doing a quest that forces you to some how explore the dungeon a little before you ever get the map. Hopefully something more interesting than coffer keys like in FFXI, but it doesn't really have to be.

I almost feel the same, but just to have it is a big boost for me. I'm gonna chalk this one up to "as far as the eye can see" and hope it doesn't get out of control.Am I the only one slightly dissapointed that unfurling the map happens in MASSIVE chunks?

I do agree with those who are saying names of places shouldn't appear on an unrevealed map. Quest markers would be fine though.

What is with the "exploration police" in this community? If players want to explore then they will explore. If they do not want to explore then they won't. It's not up to you. It's absurd the hills you guys pick to die on.Am I the only one slightly dissapointed that unfurling the map happens in MASSIVE chunks?

Horrible running animation, awful useless jumping, beautiful scenery and music. Please SE I hope to Odin you're working on that horrible animation.
I hope the auto-mapping system is only for field zones. I'd really like it if dungeon zones required you to complete a quest or something to get the map. That has always been one of my favorite aspects of FF11 because sometimes getting the map for a zone was next to impossible, but once you got it, what an achievement that was! I didn't get maps of the Emptiness until they raised the level cap on those areas and even then I had to brave level 100 mobs... (for a map that looks like somebody sneezed on a tissue).
EDIT: If this feature was back ported into FF11, I'd have the maps you could just buy be the ones that auto-reveal, but maps that you have to do a quest for would still require a quest.

Very nice. Covers Central Shroud between Gridania and Bentbranch, a tour of Bentbranch, a waterfall north of Gilbert's Spire, a tour of Hyrstmill, and a tour of Spirithold/Warren Prison, south of Greentear/Greentear Selective Cutting Area.
The music is perfect, I'm blown away in amazement. BRAVO!
Just got to include inertia for character movements, and for when they're turning left and right etc.
Jumping also looks good. I saw in this video, and other videos that they've jump over fences, rocks and ledges to get over obstacles, and to get from point A to point B faster.
For the alpha ver. This is a great feature they've demoed. I hope they show us more.
The jumping looks strange. You do not jump like that if you are moving forward. Most of the jumps in the video are just because the person at the controls couldn't keep his finger off the jump button.
I've pointed out it is a feature they're most likely demoing. Look at it again and tell me they did not jump over fences, gates, rocks, etc. Go ahead and look for yourself, tell me if I'm wrong.
