    Incentive for exploration

I have been playing some game from arenanet for a while and i will not be taking any credit for this idea, but this game have a very sweet system to gives people incentives to explore the world despite being able to teleport literally everywhere even if its only 2 minute walk.

Basically, gives extra experience point to a monster the longer they were up.

    example:
Fat Moogle lv52 gives a base 500 exp.
Fat Moogle lv52 that were up for 10min gives 500 exp + 100 exp.
Fat Moogle lv52 that were up for more than 3hour gives 500exp + 500 exp.

the multiplier can even go up more than base exp.

What does this accomplish in general:
    - There won't be favourite camp anymore or overcrowded camp, players are encouraged to moves around the world to find mobs that have been up for sometime because you will levels up way faster by exploring untouched regions.

    - Players are spreaded out all over the world

    - We can see what the world has to offer, this is what basically GW2 has accomplish even with hassle free teleportion system.

I like your premise, but I think it would make leveling up and getting XP far to easy.

Your idea would be awesome when combined with the NM system. However every mob in the world may be a bit much!

Also it really flies in the face of of the FF community logic of setting up a party camp and grinding out XP quickly.
I know your suggesting bonuses and it does not change this aspect of FF. but you do have to admit it's a staple trademark of FF MMO's.

It probably could work, however I would think they were have to be a cap on the max amount of XP a mob can earn a player, and the times probably should be hours not minutes.

I think that's the point. There's no "staple of FF MMOs", there's only been one so far and it's changed dominant play paradigms enough times in and of itself that you can barely use it as an example. They clearly want to move -away- from that style of static camps and long XP grind parties in favour of something more like GW2's system in the first place - even FFXIV as it originally released was not the sort of game where static camps were viable compared to leves and roaming parties.

Personally, I really like this system in GW2 - occasionally, you go somewhere out of the way, fight something you wouldn't normally, and a huge XP pinata drops out, and it's a very cool feeling! The numbers would have to be finessed, obviously- they're exaggerated here- but I'd love to see this spread to other MMOs.

    Subect: Incentive for exploring.

Conclusion: Because you want to. Rewarding players for every little thing is exactly what is killing off MMOs and games in general in terms of achievement.

You turned on the game..ACHIEVEMENT UNLOCKED. 1500 POINTS, SPEND IT NOW ON A GUN WITH LOCKON IRONSIGHT!

I think the incentive is already set toward unlocking your map.

Yoshi-P already stated that this will not be how ARR works. You will get xp from quests, missions, etc. Party grinding will be a option but not better than Quest, missions, etc. The idea is to build a stronger community. I like the idea. Our community is what set us apart from the other fly-by-night MMOs.

The one key issue people seem to forget is that some people simply don't care about this stuff, in the slightest.

I personally love exploring virtual worlds, but I can totally see why fast travel/teleporting exists in them. Just because I like to take in all the details (or lack there-of...I'm looking at you 1.0), doesn't mean the rest of the playerbase does. Stop letting other peoples game experience hurt your game experience. I plan on looking at everything A Realm Reborn has to offer, and I won't let a group of people who would rather teleport there get in my way of enjoying it. If they want to do that, let them...doesn't affect me in the slightest!

Plus in 2.0 there will be more reason to explore seeing a the map only fills in through exploration. who knows what will be missed if you just teleport everywhere?

i like the bonus idea part, in ffxi every expansion zones became empty, people stoped using dunes, bibkiki bay was completely empty. everyone would do the best zone for exp. not for the exploring cause i go to places only to kill nm's and do dungeons and events/endgame/grind areas. i don't need a stupid reward to run around and call it content. but keeping all the zones new and old usable would be cool. though i'm sure the reason for this is too keep zones full and feeling lively but if anything they can give these bonus's to certain zones every month or so ...keep it changing or something so new zone and old is usable. is sad when you think bout the fun in zones you had and now are dead and pointless to use. pvp games like warhammer use stuff like this for pvp scenarios, where they only release special ones with bonus exp for seasonal and special events. they can do this for old zones, say christmas event in addition to the norm we can all exp in an old area or area never exp b4 on mobs with a bonus added to them if wearing the outfits from the other event. what have you. but either way ..i like this idea the op speaks of, just not for exploring purposes. i don't expect it to be some super viable way for a solo player to enjoy zooming his way to max quicker then party mode.

Three easy steps on how to get people to explore an area.

Step 1. Add an achievement for exploring the whole area.
Step 2. Put important quests around the entirety of the area.
    Step 3. Profit.

In just these three easy steps you can get any sucker to explore an area!

Well I see that they are trying to move away from that, but it's the players that stick to it even in FFXIV. They made the jobs extremely flexible at first, but everybody complained that there was nothing that set apart their chosen class.

So they started making them unique, now we are kinda back where we started in XI now aren't we? lol

It's just that when you think of Final Fantasy and you think of an MMO, you really have nothing but XI to reflect back on!
Do we need to move on sure, but boy do they scream and yell if they don't have their tank, Healer and Damage Dealer paradigm! lol
No white mages or black mages didn't fly very well either.

How ironic that sticking to what we know and love from playing past FF games would mold FFXIV into what it is now!
No, it's not that much different at all!
