While I'll be very happy to see more hairstyles, I definitely hope they will avoid "over the top" comedic styles that really have little to do with fantasy. See afros and the like.

If anything Rend Hairpack is just as boring as XIV's is right now. Sure it had a few interesting designs but most of them were "Bowlcut + Bun" or "Bowlcut+Pony Tail" But then again, I'm extremely Biased against Oblivion because Bethesda has no Idea how to design characters. Though Skyrims looking decent I still am holding my bets.

The character creation on any game based on the oblivion engine is honestly horrible. Not only it's almost impossible to get a good result, fixed options like hair are actually badly designed (not just few), but the character won't even look the same in game as in the character creation menu.

It took some serious modding to create decent looking characters both in oblivion and fallout 3.

actually only mod that was requred was 'unlocking' sliders, so you could ove one without moving every other one. with that you could design realy awesome characters. But we talk about hairstyles, and point is f3/onlivion basic ones were poor. however moded ones were really awesome

I had that mod, and while it did add some improvement, it actually made characters in game look even more different from the character creator tool.

I was actually a quite active oblivion modder, especially in the process of "beautification" of characters (just do a search for Abriael Human Races Revamped on TESnexus), and revamping the human races (and just the ladies) in order to make them look decent took quite a lot of work.
Of course your definition of "decent" may vary.
