A set amount of time will pass in the world for those that survived and weren't placed in limbo. When we come out of limbo, we may or may not have aged while being there, but for us it's probably just going to feel like we had a long nap.

As I see it, we were all put into "Crystal Stasis" in the Lifestream Rift. Go back to FFV through FFXIII-2. Characters often say, when waking from Crystal Stasis that it is not like sleeping and not instantaneous but something horrible that they don't want to ever do again.
