People who complain about FFXIV being on PS3 should be shot. It is a FF game, a console franchise, deal with it.

I agree, but there is a very good basis for some 'concern': FFXI.
How many times over the years have we been told that, due to "PS2 limitations" such-and-such a great feature can't be added, or such-and-such limitation can't be removed? Seems to me there's a legitimate concern here that "PS3 limitations" will be SE's mantra with XIV a few years down the road.
Sure, some folks are 'anti-console' out of weird bigotry, sense that 'real gamers use PCs', etc., but the majority of those expressing concerns here I suggest do so out of a worry that XIV, like XI, will be limited due to console restrictions.
Separate servers for consoles and PCs would at least allow for variation based on the console's lack of power, memory, whatever, so as not to neuter the PC version which could handle such features.
I don't remember what kind of issues they had in FFXI and which features they couldn't implement because of the PS2 restrictions. But I suspect it had something to do with the limited hard drive and/or very low bandwidth. The PS3 shouldn't have any relevant limitations in either of those since you can easily upgrade your HDD and your connection speed is only limited by your ISP (To a certain degree - don't get smart with me now! ;P ).
As for hardware performance, it's just like Yoshi said: They simply have to dial back the graphical fidelity of the PS3 version. The game needs to run on very low-spec PCs anyway - lower than the PS3 most likely. So there's no way around optimizing it for the low-end, but that doesn't prevent them from giving us the option to turn the setting all the way up if our PC can handle it.
In the current post Yoshi-P stated , quite eloquently and forcefully, his reasons for wanting PC and Console gamers as part of a Global community. I am in complete agreement with him. He has also stated several times in the past that ARR will be developed in such a way as to allow maximum usage of both in such a way as to not be a hindrance to the overall game development in the future. I am going to take him at his word and I hope to make new friends from the console world.I agree, but there is a very good basis for some 'concern': FFXI.

You have my support Yoshi-P & whole XIV's teams
I will wait patiently, keep up the awesome work & stay healthy.
Yay servers open next week \o/
(3x bets i get chosen for alpha and beta and i wont care about 1.0 anymore lol)
This would be 11/22 from the post date, though he said 1 week after the 11/11 end in an earlier post. Well, tomorrow we shall see if 11/17 was right or not. I am not sure why I will be happy to get back in the old game, but I will... lol
If Alpha-3 starts Monday 11/19, then I may be busy. lol
If Alpha-4 (Global Test) starts Monday 11/26 I will definitely be busy!
OK... on edge of seat!
Are these the same servers for Version 1.0 or for Alpha/Beta 2.0? I'm confused, because if we are playing Version 1.0 again, our characters' data will not be saved. If that's the case, then what is the point? I already uninstalled Version 1.0 from my laptop and desktop, so I'm waiting for ARR.
Still, thank you for the event at the end, Yoshi-p. I actually had a feeling before that the servers would crash due to the event because of everyone trying to log on in the same area. It was bound to happen on Version 1.0 lol
When the servers come back up next week or whenever they come back up they will still be the 1.0 servers. It's just for ppl that wanna stay in touch with there friends and what not. Yoshi commented on this decision in one of his letters and said that no one is really going to be paying attention or updating them anymore but as long as 30% or more of the FFXIV community wants to continue playing FFXIV 1.0 they'll keep it going until ARR comes out.Are these the same servers for Version 1.0 or for Alpha/Beta 2.0?
