Back in 2004 when I had first bought FFXI, I had many wild ideas of what the game would be like, naturally as a Final Fantasy game I figured it'd have my favorite job, while installing I read the manual and my dreams were already crushed, no Time Mage... I ended up eventually choosing Black Mage (several days later, back in 56k connection days). Anyhow, the desire to be a Time Mage never died down with me, faithfully awaiting each expansion that rolled in I fervently hoped and wished I'd wake up one morning to find the newest addition to the game would be Time Mage.( random blurb: I even had someone in the community make up a time mage hat model to use in game) Expansions came and came and came, but no Time Mage, my fellow players stated to me that "This game doesn't need it it's spell are already strewn about the jobs as is." however that never satisfied me, and even worse when in a time traveling expansion Scholar was introduced which was very redundant in my opinion, since it at launch had almost no unique spells. Time marched on but no prospects of Time Mage. So when FFXIV was announced I was thrilled, partially because of the possibility that I'd finally get my wish, but alas it was not to be.
However.... I spotted a ray of hope, with the new team for FFXIV and actively going for a more "Final Fantasy" feel it seemed only logical to add Time Mage which is just as much a Final Fantasy icon as mages named after colors.
So what I'm hoping, and I'm patient with it... Is that after jobs like Ninja Thief and Samurai are introduced maybe one day we'll get to see the noble Time Mage strolling around Eorzea.
I'd like to mention that time and space magic, along with being very mutable (changing it into however SE would want to do) is also a varied and extensive list of spells which most people don't realized are time or space magic at all.

Some sample spells and some possible uses in FFXIV (some already ingame)
Bind - Crowd control prevent movement
Gravity - Crowd control slows movement
Slow - Enfeeble, increases delay for attacks / abilities
Stop - Crowd control stuns target
Haste - Buff decreases delay for attacks / abilities
Old - Enfeeble decreases stats over time
Teleport - Utility brings other players to Time Mage's location
Some spells like comet and meteor in some games also belong in a Time Mage's arsenal.
As for the basic class it could be called Horologist and it's weapon could be a time peace(pocket watch), and as for an attack animation(cosmetic) it could simply be brandishing the clocks face at an enemy with arm outstretched and have a small burst of energy with a tick tock sound emit from it.
I might be rambling it is 6am, but what are your thoughts on this iconic Final Fantasy job?
