* Bah and noticed necro.
If SE want this game to stop having such a medicore subscription base then I'm afraid it NEEDS to be more like other MMO's.
Might be painful to hear but as it stands, SE just cannot continue FFXIV with the severe lack of players. 2.0 needs to succeed otherwise it's 'bye bye FFXIV'. They will not keep it open to appease a handful of players when they are losing so much money.
No, i'm not anti FF, i'm not pro WoW, you just have to be realistic about these things.

Well FFXI is an older game then WOW and is still active. Many transfered to xiv while still playing there.
It's clear fro msoem peopel on these boards, that they are tired of WOW but want a wow clone. Then get blizzard to take the money they make and develope something on a decent engine adn stop pushing old engines with mediocre add ons. SE orgianlly didn't plan another MMO but decided to give it a try, and then decided to stick with it and redo it rather then push an engien they know wouldn't cut it.
Sure, you can make the game familiar to others of other mmo's but for the sake of the future, don't clone out dated games. GW2 is turnign me off for that reason.
you do realize FFXIV was in development and in idea phase with Codename: Rapture back in February 2005... they were wanting to do it for sometime it wasn't a last minute change of mind of not wanting to do another MMORPG. Read the Development entry here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Final_Fantasy_XIVReally?

other then totally changing this into an FFXI clone which I don't want, and you seem to desire; SE has done what it can in the current engine for the game to fix these. THAT is why they have been making a new engine for the game. It can't be fixed in Crystal Tools.
SE failed in FFXI as well. Tanaka decided long ago that he didn't want to raise the cap past 75 because he feared how it would effect Jobs and people playing them. Other jobs gaining access to Convert namely. If they had raised the level cap with each expansion after RotZ, The gear would not have made thousands of pieces to pick from at level 75.
The player base for FFXI wanted the level cap increased. So they did. The only real mistake their was that they only popped out 3 expansions for Abyssea. SE could have done 5 or 6 in my opinion.
Changing classes/jobs at a set location is not good for this game.
XP lose with death, no thanks. That will create more elitism then you can imagine. We currently have no XP buffer, you want to die, and lose the ability to equip all your gear and weapons?
As far as redoing all the classes into their own type. I think that is already there. I was just leveling up GLD and MRD and the way those classes and jobs are built, they are very much defined as Tanks. I also think that SE plans to add a second job to all current classes. These second jobs will change the roles those classes play.
SE and Yoshi-p are making a new world for us. But they have also been kind enough to provide us with some content in the current world to play while waiting for that new world. This version of the game is going to go away and we are going to get an MMO that is more of a Final Fantasy game then even FFXI was. I played FFXI and enjoyed the story in it. Those of us who are paying to play now, are supporting the efforts of Yoshi-p's team by doing that.
edit: I didn't even realize this was a pointless thread from last year until right now and many of the changes now didn't exist then. lol

Anima is Fine, I can recharge it daily with trade in items and such, works great!first off they need to stop trying to be other mmo's, since they'll never beat wow cuz it already has its fan base locked in.
they need to drop anima and add a form of warp spell/warp items
they need to add a mog house or something like it
they need to to make you change jobs in your mog house
they need to add a painful death penalty or or there no point in dieing
they need to make aoe spells seprate from solo attack/buff/debuff spells
they need to make re-do all the classes as there own type of class(dd,tank, buff, debuff)
they need to make a real search like ffxi for finding party members and flag for party.
we have rooms we can retire too and store u/u gear. i don't like that we can't sumon retainer in room and reset it too wards but meh, that gonna be changing soon.
dungeons are designed around changing classes during the fights. This was an intentional application.
The gear damage penalty is enough for death penalty, i don't feel like haveing too keep grinding everyweek cause my pt can't get speedrun on dungeon. or is strugling on how too beat garuda after p3.
Those enfeebles u want seperated from spells? they used too be in game. Got taken out too make new jobs later with them.
re-doing the classes? to give them a specific role, they made JOBS. classes are universal while jobs are the branch off to be a more specific role.
the search function works fine. Just no one puts up flag lfp.
I am seriously going to beat you until battle tanks pull us apart.

He worked on Dragon Quest not FFXI, he never worked on a FF.
Edit: Also as a rule I never believe a post on a forum without a solid fact and reference to it, such as credits.

Love that article from it : " In one interview, he has stated that his favorite Final Fantasy game is Final Fantasy VII and that he wants to make a MMO as "powerful" as that game was."http://finalfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/Naoki_Yoshida
