More than likely they'll send out an email with a link to those with accounts. Much in the same method of how they're distributing the alpha and beta downloaders.
Official it's a new client, which will be downloaded by people who have registered their 1.0 client for free. If you want the PS3 client you have to pay.
Speculation: I imagine a download on the lodestone, and you will have to login to access the page, the site will the check the accounts database and if you have an FFXIV service account at all it will allow you to download the client.
Alright, pure theory, the existing updater can handle the swap. The whole 1.0 package has 5... yes '5' executable files. A boot engine, the actual game engine, log in application, the game configurator and the updater. All the updater does is check for a newer version and then download the needed torrent files. Then it will use the torrent engine to haul in the new installer/updater and files and launch that.
I think SE will surely announce alternative ways to download/upgrade. Maybe even an ISO on the SE accounts page if you are registered as a legacy player or in possession of a 1.0 key.
Everything, including the patcher will be completely new. Reps have already said it's safe to uninstall FFXIV 1.0 ♪Alright, pure theory, the existing updater can handle the swap. Act in such a way that you treat humanity, whether in your own person or in the person of another, always at the same time as an end and never simply as a means
Hrm...possible, but highly improbable. Even though the look of 2.0 might be similar, the coding is what really matters. If they're using a different engine the coding might be totally different to get the same look, hence the new software of 2.0.Alright, pure theory, the existing updater can handle the swap. Even just the data transfer of characters poses a headache which I truly commend the dev team for.
If you look at the pictures of the two platforms, the resolution of the textures is evidently different.
Alright thanks you everyone ! I removed 1.x from my computer and I'm just waiting now... Perhaps I will get a mail for beta test ;p
Just make sure you guys back up the FFXIV folder under My Documents\My Games.
It has your screenshots, macros, old saved character creation data as well as the creation/customization options to your existing ones.I'm assuming that we'll be able to load those up in ARR seeing as they were created/modified on the final night.
Edit: Whoops. Found a post from Rukkirii on the subject that I missed
However, please keep in mind that it will be possible to import your current character data to the ARR character creation benchmark to play around with. So if you'd like to do that, be sure to back up your FFXIV folder located in your My Games > FINAL FANTASY XIV before uninstalling.

1.0: Delirium Impulse (MysidiaGungnir)
ARR:Dashe Herate (Sargatanas)Dashe Voln (Excalibur)
I hope they will unlock them. Remembering the FFXI PC-Version, the graphics engine was more powerful than you were officially able to activate in the options. People were speculating if Sony paid SE so they made the PC version look like the PS2 version.
I played FFXIV before it was cool.http://www.shadowflame-linkshell.de
