SE said time after time they wanted the gaming experiance to be identical on all platforms, which is why we had so many PS2 limitations, they are moving away from this in FFXIV though.

they would have to have DL link somewhere in our SE account. or it might just update from the old launcher. dont know yet.
We already have confirmation that it's a brand new client and we can get rid of 1.0's client. It would be near impossible to update 1.0 > 2.0 merely due to the fact their architecture would be different due to the engine swap.

op asked what will we use to DL 2.0
what i ment was log in like always and the 1.0 client downloads the new client for 2.0 then installs it then the new 2.0.
the launcher accesses your SE account first anyways and then they just redirect it to download the new file for the 2.0 launcher and auto install.

1.0 is now a true collectors item.![]()

More than likely they'll send out an email with a link to those with accounts. Much in the same method of how they're distributing the alpha and beta downloaders.

Official it's a new client, which will be downloaded by people who have registered their 1.0 client for free. If you want the PS3 client you have to pay.
Speculation: I imagine a download on the lodestone, and you will have to login to access the page, the site will the check the accounts database and if you have an FFXIV service account at all it will allow you to download the client.

Alright, pure theory, the existing updater can handle the swap. The whole 1.0 package has 5... yes '5' executable files. A boot engine, the actual game engine, log in application, the game configurator and the updater. All the updater does is check for a newer version and then download the needed torrent files. Then it will use the torrent engine to haul in the new installer/updater and files and launch that.
I think SE will surely announce alternative ways to download/upgrade. Maybe even an ISO on the SE accounts page if you are registered as a legacy player or in possession of a 1.0 key.

Everything, including the patcher will be completely new. Reps have already said it's safe to uninstall FFXIV 1.0 ♪Alright, pure theory, the existing updater can handle the swap. As for how they'll distribute the new client, not sure as yet. Maybe an emailed download link, or a link on the lodestone or even the account managements page♪
