So the solution is unisex characters. This is full of win.
Are you new to this whole 'internet' thing?I'm sorry, but I just couldn't bear to watch this go on any longer. Can someone please help me understand why, even with all the cool information we've been getting, people are so adamant about clinging to issues that, in a game, are completely meaningless? What exactly is the point of debating same-sex marriage when, in the context of a COMPUTER GAME, it means absolutely nothing? Unlike the real world, in an MMO there are absolutely no tangible benefits to getting married. So why are we so caught up on this? I think the gay playerbase of this game, especially, should understand that marriage isn't necessary to express your love to someone. So can we please just move on, and have meaningful discussions about aspects of the game that actually matter?
I'd also like to touch upon Laiferr's thread concerning sexism and the "objectification of women" in this game. Because no matter how hard I look I just don't see it. I've encountered plenty of female players during my 2 year FFXIV career and not one of them has ever mentioned having a problem with their gear, breasts, what have you. This is mainly due to the fact that it's a GAME. This is where you're supposed to be able to dress "sexy" and not be judged for it because it's not REAL, it's Final FANTASY. But that point aside, what exactly is wrong with breast physics? Breasts, being external appendages, tend to bounce at least a little while a women is running, jumping, etc, so why is asking about breast physics suddenly offensive?
Furthermore, how can you possibly blame the development team? Female swimsuits, and clothing in general tend to be more revealing than the male equivalent. This has nothing to do with the FFXIV dev team, this is what society has chosen to be the "ideal image" for a woman. If you don't like it, it's not this game you have a problem with, it's the real world. As far as I can tell, especially since I'm a college student, the vast majority of women seem to rather enjoy showing off their bodies for everyone to see. Why shouldn't they be? The female form is beautiful and should be acknowledged as such. The dev team decided to implement some clothing that would cater to that desire. What exactly is offensive about that?
I'm not really sure if others share the same views as me but I'm just sick and tired of people beating the same dead horse. We've already been through this political BS on these forums, haven't we learned? I normally try to keep an objective view on things like this and try to be accepting and not antagonistic but I felt this needed to be said.
I'd like to first point out that the irony of your post is beyond hilarious.
The fact that you bash on the same sex thread only shows me that you're either against it or you completely missed the memo about Yoshi-P asking us himself for feedback on the issue.
As for the sexism thread, as a woman I find it retarded but it's related to FFXIV and they are not breaking any rules posting it so it is well within their right to post and it is by far not the first thread like it and it won't be the last.
Have fun with this thread before it gets locked, this thread in itself is useless and serves no reason other than to complain about others opinions which I clearly remember a mod posting that everyone has the right to post as they wish as long as it pertains to FFXIV.
I think you've missed the point.
They simply shouldn't have added a marriage option if they weren't allowing same sex marriages. We're in 2012.
I don't know, I kind of think he's sharing an opinion about something relavent to the game. In fact I think he may even have a right to post. I swear I heard that somewhere...I'd like to first point out that the irony of your post is beyond hilarious.

This seems a bit hypocritical if I do say. You are saying that these people ranting about sexism and same sex marriage have an ok, but the OP here doesn't?I'd like to first point out that the irony of your post is beyond hilarious.

I can see the hypocrisy of my own post. So yeah, I'm sorry. But I guess it just seems like there's something wrong with the top two threads being about gay marriage and sexism. That's not what these forums are intended for, as far as I can tell. Did I succumb to the temptation to bitch these people out? Yes, but it seems like the majority agrees with me.
Quick to appologlize- I greatly appreciate that (even if you dont feel or weren't really wrong). The gay marriage thread is one of great political charge and as Yoshida in his live letter specifically said he wanted community feedback on the topic it only makes sense it made it into game talk. Of course once it hit game talk the political/religious issues followed.
And the sexism thread the OP's opinions and intents become clearer / slightly changed as they read / responded, I think the long intro post made the wrong impressions but w.e they weren't meaning harm but rather a discussion on the topic. And I liked talking about the awkward urge that somehow sexy == naked. Also once people calmed down it got quite humorous
The forums require an extreme amount of patience and forgiveness, too much culture not to be such.
Sorry for such a rough post in your thread - but as a forum dedicated to feedback the worst thing to do to the forum is to say there shouldn't be feedback. If the GMs/Reps think a post is unnecessary or excessively rude they will delete it, report them - they really do a 24/7 job on the forums.
Do you want a community where you feel welcome, even embraced? Where people have your back in general and you have theirs? It's not going to happen if we continue in this downward spiral of nitpicking.
We're tearing our community apart by arguing over the most inane crap imaginable. It's not a legal requirement to be contrary about everything while using the internet. If you disagree with someone, think about how important the issue really is, consider letting it slide. Nobody wants to play an MMO full of assholes who object to anything and everything - it's easier to go play a single player game. We all have the potential to not be an asshole. Seize it today. SE is doing their part, so do yours and make ARR a better place.

As far as the sexism goes, I'm particularly annoyed with the nonsensical midriff on female DRG AF armor. It is not sexy, it does not look cool, and it defeats the entire purpose of the armor. I really wish some talented person made a fix for it so that I didn't have to look at it, because the coliseum gear pretty much confirmed that the artists have very bad taste.
That's about where my minor complaints end though, and I basically agree with the idea that too many irrelevant things are being complained about. Same sex marriage wasn't in FFXI, it won't be in FFXIV. These are all generally topics that have an incredibly vocal minority and then a very silent majority that don't particularly care, and it creates the illusion that people consider them "hot topics".
