lets look bad on some books that a great majority of people never heard of until they made a movie about it.. LOTR, Narnia, Jurassic Park, and the list can continue forever. my point with this reply is that once these particular books were made into movies the books sold like hot cakes all over again bringing in yet more and more revenue. I would be willing to bet that SE may actually increase their fan base if they did release a book that invoked the imagination, brought excitement to the readers mind and completely engulfed the reader in an adventure they may not have ever experienced before.

let us not forget that the 14 story is an epic tail. (if you think VII is better fine, but i'm not comparing the two, it would be like comparing a LOTR book to a Narnia book, both are great)

it's pretty simple, you said:

You've just labeled two of the most well-known, popular, and arguably the most important fantasy novel series of the 20th century as something that nobody's heard of 'til the movies.

Let's put it this way, while the movies have been a nice boost to the sales of the books, especially LOTR, they were already beyond the 100 million copies milestone before that, not exactly something that "the great majority of people have never heard of".

It would have a slim chance of bringing in revenue, and only if they marketed it right. Perhaps they could include a small booklet containing 1.0's synopsis with some art as part of an ARR Collectors Edition packaging.

But with so many other Final Fantasy titles to work with, SE would likely devote their efforts into a title that wouldn't be as much of a profit gamble (like FFVII).

I really liked how the game was shaping up towards the end -version 1.0 that is- and I hope when they fix the lag and stress issues this turns out to be the FF game we want it to be and not just a wow clone with a nice FF skin,

Oh no, it's very very much going to be a WoW clone with a FF skin. But you'll play it anyway because Final Fantasy.
