If it was something misc and aesthetic, then he could have said "players who survived will look all burned out" or "have red eyes" or something similar.

So it got me thinking. Why the secret?
Maybe because it has something to do with the plot?

A secret tattoo... what sort of secret tattoo could mark people as survivors of a Dalamud catastrophe?

We now know the 12 sealed Bahamut. So this has happened before.
Who do we know that seemed oddly knowledgeable on how to handle the Dalamud situation who were all marked by the same tattoo?
