What is the harm in SE making it so more seamless gear swapping is possible and those players who want to use it can? It should be about choice in my opinion.
The "new" targetting selection system- I have chosen to revert to the old way (targetmode 1- "All"), but that doesn't mean that I would want SE to remove the choice for other players. Pink gear... it hurts my eyes and personally I think it is hideous, but people choose to wear it- that's fine and I choose not too!

People will argue that if players don't gear swap then they will be looked down upon by others, but isn't this true for other things already in game? You can't change human nature.
If you don't have the best gear currently available, +1, +2 or even +3 gear and weapons, if you can't use BR effectively etc then there are always those e-peen individuals in game that will say something about it. *Shrugs*

(And no, I'm not one of them! Gear does not make a player good at their job- if a tank is not "on-the-ball" and cannot keep hate from their mages for example, then a piece of gear is not going to make them use their abilities any better.)

Not necessarily. When creating character you chose race/gender and you chose guardian and birthday too. Gear stats may vary on race, gender, guardian and birthday making "the best possible gear set" different for every char.
And I dont mean every single piece of gear using all those factors to determine stats.

For example body slot gear stats could be linked with your guardian (up to 12 different BEST body parts for the same job), shoes with your race/gender (like 15 different best shoes), Gloves with day of your birth (lets say one item has best stats for those born on 1st - 6th day of the month, other for 7-12, others for 13-18, 19-24, 25-31, and we got 6 different best hands), etc.

Actually they could easily apply that to existing armours.
    For example:
Iron Celata - Favors: Hyur, Roegadyn
Iron Celata (Green) - Favors: Miqo'te, Lalafell
Iron Celata (Brown) - Favors: Elezen

    Normal stats: HP+36 STR+2
Stats on proper race: HP+50 STR+4.

Of course there should be equivalents for every piece of gear so everyone should be able to reach exactly the same BEST stats no matter what race/gender/guardian you got. Equivalents should be similarly hard to obtain too. And all stats should be visible to players so we could determine weather something suits you, or it does not.

At that point you're just inserting a mini game of what to macro in where.. If your end result is having an edge in battle, it doesn't matter if it comes from a mini game in your head or if it doesn't. They just need to design the game better than having you play a mini game of wasted inventory space, blinking characters, stat calculations, and a bunch of other arcane stuff.

No gear swapping. That was one of the things that brought down FFXI.

No one will MAKE you carry extra stuff. No one will MAKE you gear swap. No one can MAKE you do anything you don't want to.

As for elitism, gear swap did not make elitists. Weather SE adds gear swap or not there will still be douche bags running around acting like they're top sh!t.

I liked gear swaps in ffxi. Just the collecting gear part was fun to me and using them to increase performance was great. I understand people may not of wanted to carry all the extra gear on the flip side some didn't mind at all. It's just different play styles . Kinda seems counter productive to me to shut out one way of play just because its not yours. Not everyone liked camping Kings or waiting for Tiamat etc... in ffxi does that mean they shouldn't have been in the game? If you don't like gear swaps don't use it alot of players in ffxi chose not to. I just wish we had the choice in ffxiv.
Oh ya and the " not realistic " reason.. seriously? Your fighting monsters with swords and magic, so good chance the realism card has no value in this discussion.

I have to thank Square-Enix for the amazing job they have done recreating Final Fantasy XIV from Scratch. Especially the inclusion of Missing Genders which we petitioned for in good faith. This was proof to us players that the Developers are truly Sympathetic to our requests and that being honest and vocal can pay off with the amazing characters we have who are Female Roegadyn, Male Miqote, and Female Highlanders. Thank You SE, Thank You Community Team, Thank You Yoshi-P.

First of all, Gear swapping does not add any sort of "skill" or "difficulty" element to the game. Any idiot can make a macro that switches all their gear and then casts a spell or WS with one macro. All it does is encourage people to farm more for items then to actually use them.

Second, someone mentioned earlier that they like being able to wear an accuracy set and then be able to switch to a DD set in one battle. The reason this is bad for an MMO setting is because then that makes a single person a one stop shop for several roles in a group. If someone can fill multiple roles such as debuffing and damage dealing then you no longer need to bring multiple people to fill different roles in a group. Why not just get one debuffer who can also DD, AoE, Heal, and tank and then fill the rest of the party with 100% damage dealers. You won't need to bring a different person for specialized roles in a party, one person can do it all and everyone else can just be damage.

The system now encourages a variety in gear which in turn encourages a variety in play style.

Let's keep gear swapping FFXI exclusive. I never want to make gear swap macros for every single ability again.

I agree that the game needs more ways for "good" players to shine above the average. But gear switching is not it. I agree that the battles should avoid becoming "What shoes should I wear" in the middle of combat, choose before you run in. There should be ways to change according to the situation for strategy purposes but that should be built into the battle system not the equipment system. And besides it should be accessible to the casual gamers as well, because a good MMO player should be known for his ability with the combat system not what gear he uses. "The good marksman is known not for his arrows, but for his aim" -Confucius or Homer or someone...

Gear should be something to enhance a players abilities, not an ability themselves. I want a good battle system, not a lackluster battle system that makes up for it with the gear system.
