The gear in xi was designed sloppy, having that many situational pieces was just bad design. Hell if you look at the stuff coming into xi now you can see that there getting away from it. Coming from some one who use to Blink like a christmas tree with an over clocked blinker due to having a /equip some where in every macro. it is one thing that i do not miss at all.

why was it sloppy design you didnt' give a reason not wanting to carry more gear isn't one and the fact you had to hit a macro to help tank a fast attacking mob that seperates a good player from a bad or casual one you always had the option to tp ws and blink in the same gear it was up to you. Something that you don't like doesn't mean it is bad design you had the option to not switch gear

Mostly because i really disliked the side grading and situational gear that existed in xi. due to the cap sitting at 75 for so long and the development decisions to keep certain pieces of gear "The best" Years after they were introduced. Clear cut upgrades on gear or don't bother. Yes its personal opinion and preference i am not trying to say other wise. But when i am engaging in combat the last thing i want to be worried about is the pair of boots i have equipped on my character or what rings or pants would be best in that nanosecond. Introducing a new shiny piece of gear that is all around worse then whats already in the game except for one select situation is a bad thing. gear staying viable long after its "out dated" because it augments one ability is not good. The reason that happened in xi was because it was only a /equip away in battle.

The current system in xiv allows us to focus on whats is going on in battle. The gear its self is designed in a generalist fashion that supports the lack of active mode swapping. On the rise to cap there are clear and defined "Best pieces" for the rolls you wish to perform. I sincerely hope that this trend continues. And you're more then correct, part of it is not wanting to have to clog up my inventory with a bunch of stuff that i need to pack along with me every where to be a "good" player. The amount of stuff you had to collect and pack around with you to perform "well" by community standards was crazy, and the problem was compounded by every Job you leveled up in xi.

But that's just my opinion, you are more then welcome to disagree with it.
