And the rest of the game looks like shit w/o Luminous engine's sisI asked you to show me where in that video you see an "Improvement" in the "Movement Animations", especially since they said they removed them on purpose, so I wonder where you're seeing this improvement that they're not doing because so far they did it on purpose to not have the fancy animations.
This is why I am nitpicking at you, because you're saying they are making improvements, when they said they took the animations out to focus on other things not movement related. So really you are making people believe it will improve when it might not since it was intentional to remove them in the first place (think i repeated myself 3 times there but you might get it).
Also I dont care about the animations as much, if they stay how they are in alpha it wont bother me because I see it as fast, responsive and animation lock can go die in a fire (that said GW2 proves you can have beautiful movement animations and no issues).
I just don't like people going around telling people it will be fixed and fine when we have had no word from the developers that that will be the case, in-fact we've had quite the opposite.
I'll repeat it for everyone.
I DID see a turning animation.
Now if I could just link all of you to the point in the live letter that I saw it...
We'll have to wait until they rerelease it to the public.

Where is the turning that isnt like "woo spinning on the spot!"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rw2R9Naw9rU
The awesome side moon walk at 25:40
The awesome walking backwards while doing a 180 spin at 25:50
Really improved XDPlease do, link away the time you saw turning animations, and that he doesn't walk backwards and spins on the spot.
You're saying you saw something that the devs said they took out on purpose. lol.

1:03:50 The tall Hyur(?) White Mage looks like his feet are shuffling while he turns?
Papa was a rolling stone...wherever he laid his barbut was home.
Right around 26:50 - 26:54 right when he stops he swivels slightly and there is definitely a shuffle in there. then right after that everyone crowds around him so it's tough to notice anymore. But I noticed it again around 27:33 - 27:35. I fell asleep shortly after this part so I have to go through and watch the rest.
EDIT: Forgot the link lol http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gAa7D...ure=plpp_video
EDIT: Just saw it again at 27:50 - 27:54. Did anybody see these?
Are we sure that they didn't say it was removed temporarily? Is it possible something was lost in translation? Because don't forget...there's going to be a PS3 version..and I'm sure the PC version will come with gamepad support. This is just the optimal way of controlling the character with keyboard and mouse. I don't think you'll be sliding or whatever people are complaining about if you use a controller.
I can't believe how angry people are over this. I mean, come on. You'll live. XI's character animation didn't have swivel animations at all. No one seemed to care then. And when you'd be locked on a target, you would back up, but everyone else saw you literally turn around and walk slowly. And when you'd strafe around a target. To everyone else, they just saw the normal run animation. This time you can always see how everyone is moving. Anyone mention that? No...straight to the negativity.

He did, and I saw it too. The devs said they removed the gradual stop animations, not turning in place.

Gameplay's more important than an (admittedly very nice) little turn animation. I'd rather avoid a wipe than have a nice little turn that slows my character down every time. This kind of focus on graphics and style over gameplay and substance is exactly what FF and JRPGs in general get criticized for.
In the case of turning animations at least, this is something that they can safely improve without endangering gameplay. The animation could be calibrated to take a small amount of time (I'd estimate a 0.25-0.3 second animation would be more than sufficient) and by making the "launching step" on the turn move the character slightly more than usual, the animation can appear to take time, but actually be a null sum.Gameplay's more important than an (admittedly very nice) little turn animation. Sever and client store your position as absolutes for the sake of damage and ability calculations, while the animation plays client side as graphical sugar.
Honestly, during combat, I'm more than willing to forgo a little realism for the sake of smooth gameplay. For instance, after activating a WS, if I slide a bit when I move as the animation completes, that's a price I'm willing to pay. On the other hand, smooth turning animations, pivots, jumps, running; these are things that can be greatly improved from where they are now without impacting gameplay.

Eh, I'm glad someone revived the topic. People can flame and troll anyone expresses concern over this all they want, but fact remains there are people, myself included, that feel the downgrade in animation quality - which was confirmed as intentional by a rep', as quoted by someone on page one of this topic - is an ill-advised backstep and definitely not a change that meets with their own preferences.
So yes, more detail with regard to this subject would definitely be appreciated, especially because we still only have that one, seemingly fallacious rep' response that claims without any substantiation or explanation that ripping out industry-leading animation quality will somehow lead to inherent improvements in gameplay, when people have already pointed out that simpler, nicer fixes (like overrides rather than locks) would seem to be far better alternatives.
And quite frankly after the mess that was the 1.0 launch and its accompanying 'it'll be fixed by retail', I don't think anyone has the right to be taken seriously when they try and force people to shut up with 'it's just an alpha, stop voicing your concerns'.
