Marriage feedback [inofficial Poll]

I am totally fine with same sex marriage, in game, in real life etc. Doesn't bother me a jot.

To allow same sex marriage in the game means it would have to be somehow inserted into the lore of the game. Again, this doesn't bother me.

However, what a lot of people in the English speaking forums fail to realise, is that this game is a world-wide game, which spans many different cultures who are far more sensitive to this idea. The majority of people who read/post in this thread are liberal 'Westerners' (read: Europeans/USA/Canada/Australia etc.), but we do not represent the entire 100% demographic of the playerbase.

My point? Just because a lot of 'us' are fine with the idea, doesn't mean that a lot of 'everyone else' is fine with the idea. We can't impose our cultural beliefs on people on the other-side of the world just because we think they should accept it, in the same we they can't impose their beliefs on us and assume we should readily accept them. Thus, we reach an impasse.

Ultimately, this is a game, and has no real affect on your real life. If you want to be married in real life, i very much support your claims to same-sex marriage. If you want to be married in a virtual world, find one that will let you do so. Real life example: Two of my lady friends were not satisfied with the idea of a 'civil partnership' in the UK, so they flew to New York to get married. That took some real dedication. If you want it that badly, find a virtual platform that will allow it.

I am not trying to suggest that you stop asking for it here, but remember you are not the only culture who exists in this virtual community, and SE are likely going to play it safe for a long time. So don't be disappointed or take it to heart if it doesn't come to fruition any time in the near future.

Pfft, as if nobody would notice, lol. I think the real smart thing to do would be to simply not have marriage in the game in the first place. Who needs the drama?

I support all kinds of marriage...marriage is about love not gender, etc! I don't know though if SE will ever let us have same sex marriage. The way I see it..it could go either way. Seems like its becoming more and more accepted which is fantastic ^^

I don't believe in "gay pride"; I believe in "love pride". All the drama put around these things seems to say that people have forgotten what it's really about: simple, honest, pure love. What can really be wrong with that..?

As far as the game goes, it makes more sense to stop a roe from marrying a lala for simple safety reasons. Somehow I doubt anyone's really going to get up in arms about that though. But gender, really?

If a same sex couple of players have characters of different genders who get married, does that really hurt anyone? Conversely, if players of different genders made characters of the same gender marry, will that really weaken the moral integrity of the world?

I think the problem with this poll is that in real life, marriage and homosexuality are both very contested, hot topic issues. There are many countries in this world where homosexuality is illegal believe it or not. Also, since miqo'te are essentially half cat and half girl, would a marriage with them count as beastiality?

I don't wanna turn this into a flame war, but you have to understand that a lot of people will be playing this game from all over the world so it is in Square Enix's best interest to avoid anything that might offend. This includes gay marriage and other things that might seem far from offensive in USA and Japan. Best to keep out the politics, the social ethics, and the drama. No matter how right your stance is, it can still translate to lost customers.

Back from the grave I see. I still say add it secretly and let it be. Not like the addition of the feature will pop up giant neon signs about same sex unions, only those who try to or purposely looking for it would know.

If they are trying to find it then they deserve to be offended.
