Easy fix: Just as FFXI, they can make the matrimonial set (males also had some type of set), the rings and bands available for sale to everyone.

As for having an official wedding in-game, have a friend do the ceremony.

P.S. I apologize if this has been mentioned..... 88 pages, keep it going!!

Are you saying official weddings are not allowed for the LG community? Or that there are no official weddings lol?

I think Khaiden is saying no official weddings for anyone-- let it be player run as it was after it was changed in XI^^.
(Not sure how much of XI you've played, but they did start with official weddings, then move to player run ones allowing the dresses / tuxes / rings to be bought from a chest, sorry if you knew this already^^)

I still think something like this is the best solution, and make some of the wedding areas instanced such that you can go in with your own wedding party.

I don't really support gay marriage in real life either as a personal note, but I have advocated getting rid of state sponsored religeon for a long time. Honestly, I think the issue comes down to the use of the word "marriage" to begin with and tieing it to religous groups. If you give EVERYONE a civil union based on a non-love, non-sex, contractual agreement as a replacement to marriage certifiicates, I think we would see this problem go away.

That way, people of various religeons or beliefs can get "married" in any way they see fit and the civil union can even be optional.

A similar objective approach in the game would also work, I believe.

I addressed it in a similar way in my post (link in sig), though honestly I would love to see instanced player-run ceremonies, not only to get rid of that waiting list lottery crap but those ceremonies were always so stuffy and uptight. Player run would be so much better and would have a lot more freedom without having to step on anyone's toes.

I would like to see the term 'marriage' abolished irl too, I think that it's pretty archaic now and the meaning has been marred by too much fighting on all sides... hell I doubt most couples today know what 'the sanctity of marriage' is yet strive so hard to 'protect' it (lawl).

Enough about my irl gripes though and back to the topic at hand!

Player run union ceremonies? oh hells yes!

Sorry to the real life religious people in advance if this offensive but...

The world of XIV has no real-world religion tied to it, and real-life religion should not be forced upon those who do not follow those beliefs. Marriage is a ceremony of people's affection and spans across multiple religions, it is not tied to one belief. Therefore this belief should not be pushed onto others in an online game.

    Pro same sex marriage.

It has religeon... people worship the twelve...

Also, this is still going on? I feel like it is this kind of extension of the presidential debates.

Something else I should point out that most people dont get when they see references to "gay" stuff in Japanese culture.

THEY ARE MAKING FUN OF IT.

The Japanese are not a pro-LBGT society. I have lived there for many years and most of the male friends I have there are scared to DEATH of gay men. Naturally, it is a chauvanist society, so 2 women together is just seen as kinky (sadly). There have been changes over the years in a liberal direction but they are FAR from openly accepting gay culture.

It seems harmless to us when we see them making fun of LBGT characters because our own media embraces LBGT peoples with open arms and actively promotes the acceptance of it in society (Fox News and CNN aside).

Just keep that in mind when you are trying to use Japanese examples or get behind them in an attempt to point out that they or their products somehow support LBGT goals.

I get that in general but I'm pretty sure Vanille and Fang in FFXIII was a legitimate support.
