I wonder if people would still demand "respect for the Company" if SE decided marriage would only be allowed for same sex couples or all other races than lalafells... :P This is about equal possibilities for all players and their characters.

Anyways, in game same sex marriage is more popular than the Meteor Survivor T-shirts! Please let Yoshi know we want both!

Of course, since people want 'gay' marriage, I assume polygamy is also wanted, because no one's asking for just 'their' pet likes to be implemented, are they. Polygamy is practiced in many parts of the real world.

I doubt however the pro-gays will be pushing for that social variant though.

Do not attempt to sidetrack the topic at hand. Polygamy is something else. If the polygamy community feels the need to address their issue, nothing is stopping them from starting a thread of their own to demand such a right. This topic though, is specifically for SSM.

I know plenty of people who are fighting for polyamory, and I tell them all the same thing: You need to make your own argument for having more than one spouse, because you'll not have any success piggybacking on gay marriage.

First of all, the argument for gay marriage is largely based on homosexuality being an immutable trait (meaning that it's something people can't change), there's nothing immutable about wanting more than one spouse.

As far as in-game polyamory goes, I don't know how they'd implement it (seeing as how we don't know what in-game marriage entails), but doing so may require more work and more headache than they're willing to go through. If you already have a mechanic in the game for two people to marry, allowing gay marriage is as easy as deleting a line of code. Making it possible to have multiple spouses, however, is a different animal entirely.

I think it'd be interesting to have the option, though. I'm not opposed to polyamory in real life or in-game, so long as there's a system in place that allows it to work, although I very much pity anyone who might eventually find themselves having to go through divorce with multiple spouses at once.

In a thread about marriage feedback i don't see objections to see the larger picture.
And we don't want to open a thread for every sexual minority perspective on that matter.
Nor do people need to click through more than 1 thread concerning the same range of topics.

Instead the sexual minorities should help each other to combine their efforts into realisation of their virtual desires.

Right, that's your attempt at making what you are pushing as the "honorable path". When in reality you are trying to disassemble any civil conversation that has been built up to this point on the topic the OP specifically spoke of.

This particular Marriage feedback thread has a poll asking only 2 quests: Do you want or do you not want same sex marriage in-game. Anyone who wants to talk about anything other than that is free to start their own Poligamy or cross species or whatnot marriage feedback thread. Trying to discuss too many different aspects of it when we are trying to focus on one is going to muddle everything up.

I don't know about you all but Forget marriage! SE should make it a Pairing Celebration, The circumstances of the pairing could be left up to the players imaginations. Two players, be they friend or couple, can forge a pact of partnership. Seeing how this is not RL... SE could save the marriage for earth (which is leading to a decline in marriage anyway) and come up with a completely different custom where its fictitious characters can join together for many reasons. A new slot should be given for a broach instead of a ring. This would save SE the pain of having to deal with the dreaded "marriage" problem and allow them to create a new form of joining for the people of Eorzea. They can write out their pacts (vows) and display them on their wall showing others why the two have joined together.
