Yeah the funny thing is I feel even stronger about the marriage system now that you showed that picture and reminded me. I was always aware of the romance aspect throughout FF but these last couple of posts just made me realize the actual gravity of it all.SE dont be a puss :P You always love having relationships its often a key point of your game. In FFXIV its our story - so its time to make our relationships. I'm already married so I'd probably do it for fun but I know of a few real life and in game players that met and married (irl) from FFXI.

right? lol I was like meh bonding its cool too.
Then I had some of my OCremix music going and it hit a FFX romance song while reading this thread.
Flipped my table and roared TIDUS SHOULD HAVE MARRIED YUNA! And now I'm pretty set. Marriage is coming.

While I agree that SE should stop cowering in fear and just allow same sex marriage, if that's not an option then I'd prefer they rename it so they can remove the restrictions. Over 75% of the votes in this post are for it. Honestly most of the "argument" isn't even against same sex marriage, it's against marriage in general lol. They all add some sort of romance lol, though most of them where tradiontional love relationships. You skipped 9 btw :P
Until I thought of Tidus X Yuna I was pretty statisfied with the ritual bonding but now... I'm thinking marriage has to be added lol.

* Slowly whittling my wife into playing more and more games but RPGs is hard for her to get into, it will happen I swears it, maybe in FFXX Online but it will happen >.> lol

I'm going to be frank... I'm engaged and my fiance and I will both be playing boy characters this time around. My fiance has wanted to play a male miqote since we started and of course a male mithra since he was playing XI... When we heard the news that there would be no SSM my fiance looked distraught then looked at me and said "I can make a girl character" That moment literally broke me. I literally don't care if they call it marriage or w/e but I will be damned if he will be forced to make a girl character.

Yeah I think SE can work with the naming but the "theme" should remain intact. Infact the name should probably be changed along with wordings, this is Erozea and it has its own place (lore).I'm going to be frank... I think after I finish some homework I'll make "Romance for erozea" sig. I'm usually happy sigless but thinking about SE natural habit of romance.. this is actually a big thing (just in the way of how SE conducts its games, it wouldn't be FF without it).
Like how I responded to Roxy - the name is irrelevant (at least in playing this game, not discussing real world matters). I encourage SE to make their own names and lores when possible. While I agree that SE should stop cowering in fear and just allow same sex marriage, if that's not an option then I'd prefer they rename it so they can remove the restrictions. And I was thinking marriage could be replaced by a more easier to orient by "game play" content like a binding system but - then I remember FF is about friendship but is also about romance. Since this is an MMO and it is obvious that we are not watching someone elses story but playing our own - it is now our friendships and romances. Having a system that supports what a FF IS, is not a bad thing.

Yeah I agree lol. Funny thing was I didn't really care that much about this system up until these last few mins. I was like "eh, neat idea, good for some, dunno if I'll ever do it" but now I'm actually excited for it, and it's good to see some sensible people among the myriad party poopers who don't want to have anything to do with it.
I find it cute when people bring up the argument "stop bringing real life into Final Fantasy XIV" and then immediately follow up with "some countries do not allow same sex marriage have respect for them". This has happened what, at least three times in this thread now?
If people don't want to bring real life into FFXIV the answer is obvious and without question to implement it because Eorzea's take on things is obviously leaning towards equality. End of that argument.

I find it cute when people propose a discussion then throw a fit when people don't blindly and unconditionally agree with them. I didn't say a thing about being opposed to gay and lesbian relationships irl or ingame. Like I said before, I am really for the soul partner idea(even for straight couples).
You seem to be here to argue just for the sake of arguing. All i can really tell you is that if you don't like my opinion deal with it because it's not going to change regardless of how much you rage and twist my words around to your benefit.
I worded that a bit awkwardly, but I meant that I wasn't here to talk about human rights or whether it's right or not for GLBT people to do what they do(people can do w/e they want), which is what was IMMEDIATELY thrown at me the second I showed even a hint of opposition to this idea; regardless of whether or not I said I opposed such relationships(i didn't).

That being said my part in bumping this thread/taking part in it is done. I hope that SE can come up with something that everyone can be happy with(haha yeah right, who am I kidding).

I know I'm not going to convince any SSM activists on this. We just have a fundamental disconnect on the definition of what marriage actually is.That being said my part in bumping this thread/taking part in it is done..
If we can't even agree on the premise, then we are just arguing apples and oranges. No amount of discussion will ever bridge that gap.
So yeah, I'm done as well.
Hopefully SE will play it smart and sidestep this entire issue in ARR.

That is the problem with everyone who is opposed to gay marriage. Your trying to defend a definition for something that was not it's original definition and has not actually been it's definition for the better part of a hundred years. Worse, your trying to use a definition that was only ever accepted by a Minority of a Single religion.
"Marriage", in the United States of America, is a Legal Contract between two consenting adults to share all Property, Wealth and Debt in exchange for Tax intensives and other legal benefits. It has nothing to do with Religion.
The World should not be Subject to your Religion just because you believe in it.
