I just can't express enough how much of a bad idea that marriage even be put into the game. It invites too many problems. People from different viewpoints at each other's throats because of who can marry whom, and however Yoshi decides to do it, a whole group of people will not be pleased. Best to just leave it out of the game, because too many people take it way too seriously. Just mho.

this "poll" doesn't express more than a coarse opinion tendency anyways, since it has the possible inaccuracy factor that people can vote for both.
so you can't figure out how many people actually took part anyways.
and we don't know if the results are similar if they had actual consecuences in the game given the premise by Yoshi-P that he'd act in accordance to a (new and accurate) poll.

i think what he means is that in general a non-binding click of a like-button isn't necessarily a serious statement.
the thread provides a platform for exchanging Pros and Cons, but not much more.

True and people tend to forget that its just that and turn it into a debate about what is and what isn't right in the world... I'm not saying I know what people are thinking and won't say that a lot people think the way I do with this statement but what was the start of this tread seems to have been lost to the "war of words" as i like to call it and people are just fighting for reasons unknown

Asking people a simple question as to whether they support something or not is pretty straight forward and to suggest that 550 people would just vote in favor for the ha-has is really nothing more than a pathetic attempt by someone in the minority opinion to justify how it is possible for more people to disagree with them than agree.
Furthermore, asking people whether they support something but forcing them to vote as they would themselves choose to do is not logically sound. It makes the assumption that their opinion of whether to support the option and their own choice were, and should be, mutually exclusive.
That is so ridiculous it is beyond words and anyone who thinks that would be somehow a more reliable way of determining what people's opinion is on this issue has a serious lack of scruples and/or brain function.
See, this is exactly why I think marriage should be left completely out of the game. ARR hasn't even come out yet, and people are already at each other's throats. It creates too much bad blood between players. Opens up the the proverbial can of worms, well actually, more like opens up the floodgates of hell. It bodes ill.
Also, its obvious that ppl want Same Sex Marriage, some because they are IRL, others because they have boyfriend/girlfriend playing with same genders, and i dont think it is healthy for a game to limit males to pick male chars and females to pick female chars. Most of my friends play with female chars because they dont want to stare at a man's char all the day while playing.
Just because its possible to Marry same gender doesnt mean you HAVE TO do it too... Its an option, like there always been one that lets you be a Man playing a Woman char.
Also i'm sure there are plenty of man using a woman char that marries man that uses a male char, whouldnt u be against that too? Seriously...
In a fair world, everyone would mind their own business and go on about their lives. In a fair world, people would understand to live and let live and not to try to control other peoples' lives. Bu the thing is, we live in a world that is FAR from the one I described. People of different religions, races, and beliefs are always going to try to convert others' to their way of thinking, forcefully more often than not. It's their way of validating their own beliefs; if they can use what they believe to assimilate or destroy others, then it seems to them to be that much stronger. There is safety in numbers, and only the strong shall survive. It's like the basest instincts of the most dangerous animals.
That's why I think marriage should be kept out of MMOs. It ignites the war of the many tongues, it creates unnecessary and unneeded conflicts, and there are too many people who are not willing to leave alone those they don't agree with. Allowing marriage in MMOs is akin to allowing religion in MMOs, it won't go off well. Now, in my opinion, I really don't give a crap about SSM being in an MMO. Sure, it's not my way, but then again, my character won't be marrying anyone of his sex, so who cares? SSM is like any other feature in the game like holiday quests, it's not manditory to beat the game, and you can either do it or not, it really doesn't matter. I just wish Yoshi hadn't decided to add this feature. It's already a pain in the butt.

Why deny 2 of the most facinating aspects of humans to games? That's why I think marriage should be kept out of MMOs. the 2 aspects that EVERY OTEHR form of art has studied and analize and deconstruct through the ages of mankind.
Now on this particular mater od same sex marrige, there are TONs of players who play with characters that are not they own gender 90% of the mithras in FFXI were males playing females. so what is the problem with 2 clusters of poligons that represent the same gender in a game geting married?
