Yes, but would they care?
No, I dont think so

It shouldn't be so much of a problem not allowing same-sex marriages now that there will be male and female versions of every race, unlike 1.0 and XI. At least not for me since I'll be changing to male cat.
Not that I mind same-sex marriage btw, I wanted it before, I don't mind it now. There will still be people that rather play a character gender that doesnt match ther RL one, or is actually gay and just wants to be able to marry the same sex.

yes, please
in a game where you can play any gender, I don't see why any sex/race couldn't be married

I just want to add this is probably one issue that hits home for me specifically because I am gay. I never discuss my sexuality in game because quite frankly I am worried about the negative reactions. In my day to day life I live openly and I am very proud of who I am. I am 36 years old and I have fought and fought for equality since I was in High School. I know Square Enix and maybe some of the people playing this game dont understand how important this issue is to a gay player as you have never experienced it in your real life.
This thread is a reflection of the same struggles I avoid in game where I am very careful about revealing too much personal information. If the game is going to accept and appreciate its gay playerbase this issue shouldnt even be AN ISSUE. Its not like they ban signs of affection from gender to gender. You can use any emotive to any gender regardless of your gender, I didnt see that offending or causing any problems in the game. How many people stop to give a scolding to someone who is playing a male character give another male character a hug? Is it really that important? Furthermore the marriage ceremony and people invited would be up to the couple, other than that it wouldnt affect anyone else in the game.
To brush off my compassion about equality in and outside of the game is totally disrespectful. I find much more support for things like this than negative remarks but to see people support not allowing it based purely on outside speculation without any regard for the person playing the game paying their own monthly fee is nonsense and rubbish

Why the need for marriage at all? Its a video game and regardless of what other think/want it isnt up to anyone of us. Now maybe SE dosent believe in same -sex marriage thats fine thats their right. It also means that they dont have to add what you want or I want. This isnt a game breaking feature and honestly it dosent need to be added into the game. Personally SE has more to worry about than how many players want marriage, same sex marriage or traditional marriage. This topic is something that should be worked on in the real world than a damn video game it is pointless. Maybe if those of you that support or dont support this subject would spend more time and energy on this issue in real life and less time on a damn video game board bitching and moaning about it, something would or wouldnt be done.
War, you raise some interesting points, and you're right, it isn't a game breaking feature. Yet, they've already plans for it and it's to be part of the content in the game, however minute. Therefor, if they do take a stance on what direction the content will go (which, as you said is their right), it would be unwise to think there wouldn't be some sort of backlash towards said decision. Why the need for marriage at all? So logically, they would either pull the plug on the entire thing, or implement ethical equality.
SE may indeed have more to worry about, yet that doesn't push this topic completely off the list of things to think about.
You say we ought to spend more time trying to work this out in real life. Yet, if we can't even discuss and come to a beneficial conclusion for all parties in a mature fashion on a video-game board, is there really any hope?
