I do have to say...this IS Final Fantasy after all...there's always a chance of him surviving...or at least interacting with you like Aerith and Zack do with Cloud, even though they're dead. >.>

Don't forget his insane power. He was no ordinary man... there's always a chance.

But by the way it played out, and the words at the end, I have a feeling he's gone for sure. The way he smiles at the end..that is no, "I'm going to survive!" smile...that was a, "Well, at least I saved humanity." smile.

Also just realized, when he "teleports" us to the future...I don't know if it's the "echo," but it's the same thing that happens to the hyur in the opening cinematic of 1.0.

One of the strongest tools in a storyteller's arsenal is the killing off of a beloved character. I personally am against them reviving him in 2.0, but am fine with honoring his memory in a variety of ways.

RIP, Louisoix.
