Yes it is the future. If you look at the last vid released, you will tell. It says stuff like New and Old Grid. Also if you played alot and finished the storyline, Cid talks to you about Lou saying his last resort will be to send you to the future.

Why would the primals and Bahamut want to seal away Bahamut? That doesn't make sense.
The twelve are deities. Primals are primals.
Bahamut is the Dragon's Primal, that much is obvious.
Humanity has yet to obtain a primal, but I would imagine it's part of ARR's story.

I tend to agree with this. There seems to be a lot of curiosity of why the Twelve couldn't stop Bahamut. But perhaps this isn't the case. The Twelve were stronger than him in the past and are usually stronger, but with all the aether problems recently their power has waned and Dalamud and its inhabitant has grown.
Why didn't any of the primals have anything to say about Bahamut?
Edit: How could they not know he existed.

Bahamut is no primal. He is a god.
One thing though: Old and New Grid doesn't mean you get the old city and a completely now one. It's just that the big city was separated into 2 zones and that's the naming convention they went with.
A dev said in one of the threads a while back that Atomos and the crystals would be explained in 2.0 because they are going to change the way we teleport.
