I'm not the best at all the lore, but are you sure we went to the future?
...and not the past to prevent this from happening?

As far as I know, 2.0 has been confirmed to be set 5 years in the future.
And in the alpha videos part of gridania is labeled as new gridania.
I do recall the empire having means to shield itself from Dalamud though. So I'm guessing that's how they survive?

It was confirmed that ARR happens 5 years in the future. There's also a possibility of a different dimension seeing as Atomos was involved plus you can't rebuild cities in 5 years after what bahamut did![]()

Thats a good point, WHAT happened with the whole atomos deal?
It was never explained. Why was he sucking the aethers dry?

A dev said in one of the threads a while back that Atomos and the crystals would be explained in 2.0 because they are going to change the way we teleport.

Maybe Atomos is a servant of Bahamut, and was draining the aetherites in order to make sure that the Archon's contingincy plan would fail, and ensure it's master would be freed

Yes it is the future. If you look at the last vid released, you will tell. It says stuff like New and Old Grid. Also if you played alot and finished the storyline, Cid talks to you about Lou saying his last resort will be to send you to the future.

One thing though: Old and New Grid doesn't mean you get the old city and a completely now one. It's just that the big city was separated into 2 zones and that's the naming convention they went with.

As I have stated in another post and after watching this vid confirmed it.
All of our cities were / are wiped out. It was an all out War. So like in real life when your city is wiped out you move and rebuild. But there are some things that can not be moved. So religious and permanent fixtures are left in place and citizens pick and move to a new place and rebuild. Thus the New and Old Grid. Think New and Old Jerusalem or if you been to Las Vegas, New Strip (New York New York) vs Old Strip (Lady Luck).
