Yes it is the future. If you look at the last vid released, you will tell. It says stuff like New and Old Grid. Also if you played alot and finished the storyline, Cid talks to you about Lou saying his last resort will be to send you to the future.
Welcome to The Locker!!

One thing though: Old and New Grid doesn't mean you get the old city and a completely now one. It's just that the big city was separated into 2 zones and that's the naming convention they went with.

As I have stated in another post and after watching this vid confirmed it.
All of our cities were / are wiped out. It was an all out War. So like in real life when your city is wiped out you move and rebuild. But there are some things that can not be moved. So religious and permanent fixtures are left in place and citizens pick and move to a new place and rebuild. Thus the New and Old Grid. Think New and Old Jerusalem or if you been to Las Vegas, New Strip (New York New York) vs Old Strip (Lady Luck).
Welcome to The Locker!!
How about the giant sword-looking thing that comes out Dalamud? Was that just some sort of lock keeping it in place?

I wonder about the other Archons because they used their own Aether to summon them.
Also, trying to dig up the vague Bahamut foreshadow from the Aurum Vale sidequest.
