Excalibur r0 and server crash

There's only 50 mins left before FFXIV is done for good, and I've had no luck getting back on since the first r0. IM'd several friends from the LS, and they managed to get back on only to be swept by a couple extra rounds of r0.

Did anyone manage to actually remain on? Is this content going to be fully missed?

I gotta say... this is beyond disappointing.

Sorry to hear you were having difficulties during the festivities. wow, i mean wow Chris.

Were you not there? the last 2 hours was a crashfest. for everyone.

My linkshell, who is geographically spread out, witnessed the exact issues at the exact same time as we spoke on teamspeak.

Someone said R-Zero, 5 others would say, yup, just r0'd too right now.

People would get mass booted from the game simultaneously.

There is no doubt that the issues came from an overloading server-side, not client side.

lessons learned:

1. Don't compell every player on a server to gather at the same time near the same camp of the same zone. "End of the world" events tend to be popular in MMO's.

2. If you ignore lesson 1, at least consider the added server congestion of allowing all players whether they payed for subs in september or not since 2 years ago, to witness the event as well for free.

3. Assuming the congestion from lessons 1 and 2 are actually low, implementing playable content that far surpasses the buildup from the 10 days before... is probably ideal. Especially considering the hype placed on the "Hour of Reckoning".
