Is reCAPTCHA on SE account page legit?

Title says it all. Attempting to log in via computer and this is new to me. In addition to SE ID and password, there is a reCAPTCHA block that I have to type in the words I see. Just want to make sure this isn't some key logging trick or something. No info from SE in regards to this addition. Anyone?

UPDATE** WARNING: I ran AVG full computer scan and found two tracking cookies. I promptly deleted and went back to log in my SE Account Management page... NO reCAPTHA this time! If anyone is getting that reCAPTCHA block that won't let you log in until you type those words you see, it MAY BE A TRICK! The block looked like this... .

Again, after running my AVG I removed two tracking cookies and that block requesting me to type info is NO LONGER THERE.

I'm cool with that and all, but I would like to have an official update from SE about this. Seems a bit iffy to me seeing that it all of a sudden appears after never seeing this before even after incorrectly putting password before.

Tracking cookies are common. What you necessarily want to remove are things called Keylatchers, Keyloggers, Trojans, Session Hijackers and Backdoors that may cause this to pop up, otherwise AVG is notorious for it's false positives.

Tracking cookies, can contain malicious code though, whilst most (I would say 99%) are safe there are the occasional ones that are dangerous. It would be nice if the OP could give us information on the cookies deleted (might be in the AVG logs still)

I personally use Comodo and I get very few false positives, only from um... less than... normal software let's say, and take what you will from it.

But yeah AVG can be problematic, I have seen some things that should be picked up not picked up, and a lot of false positives (files seen as malware that have no malicious code in them) but no security software is 100% there are always files that aren't picked up or false positives. No matter what you use people will always say there is something better.
