In all seriousness, i would like to see the graphics settings more open ended or at least expandable as the game progresses. It looks beautiful as is, but i want it to be able to progress with time. Everquest had an expansion pack (shadows of luclin) that dramatically increased graphics quality and i was hopeful to see the same in XI, but it never came.

Right now, X|V does not really push current graphics cards on highest quality settings. i would like to have the option to go higher, but i know that people will just complain that their computer can not run it on the highest settings.

if they simply updated in game character/NPC models to match the character creator models you'd never peel me away from XI.

Well the current 14 pushes most high end systems because of how unoptimized the engine is

    That doesnt count >.> lol

I hope unlike in FFXI they feel ok making a visual difference between the two - and continue to do so.

It feels like they are willing to because they said they will add DX11 later.

Why do people say the current engine is unoptimized? The current game's graphics engine appears to be highly optimized. This game runs the GPU at 99% most of the time. That tells you that very little of the hardware is going to waste.

Most people who say this are using mid range cards, that's why, but into comparison with other DX9 games with the same or better visuals, the performance that you get on the same hardware compared others is lower.

The game's 2.5 cpu thread cap is my issue and bottleneck on the 3770k 680 SLI.
Beyond that the only performance issue I have are the hedges/bushes in the game, too many transparent textures make the gpu usage higher than it needs to be, making my card run warmer.

It's the VRAM that is important here, not RAM. Having to shuffle data between RAM and VRAM is a huge bottleneck. I don't see a compatibility problem here either. Tessellation gives you model detail flexibility without having to create separate models for weaker and stronger GPUs.

Because it is. If you compare other games' graphics to ffxiv, they are usually able to produce much better effects at the same load.

Using the GPU usage % as a measurement for optimization is wrong, simply because it does not state how much work/quality per % usage the engine is rendering. I could write you a program that uses 99% of any GPU to render one single pixel, but that doesn't mean it's optimized.
