It is nice however they are making methods of upgrading them. Honestly, the relics can't be the most powerful forever. Do you not plan on ever getting a new weapon again? It is a fair balance however to keep them the most powerful, but you have to upgrade them again.

Welcome to the world of Warcraft.

Welcome most MMO's to date outside of possibly GW2 (wherein there are no OMGWTFBBQ BiS). The gear treadmill is proven to work, and it always gives you something to look forward to in the reasonable future. You're still on the XI mentality, where people rage anytime a former BiS item loses it's luster.
We can either go back to the ffxi days of low drop rates, 3-7 day spawn periods, and archaic dragon's aery camping, or we can go with the new style which means your gear may become obsolete in <7 years time. The old mentality really only works with FFXI, it just doesn't mesh with modern gaming.

Any progression based MMO that increases its lvl caps/has expansions makes your previous expansion gear irrelevent when they do. Since FFXIV is adding Ilvl, I think they are about to become progression based.
They're most likely going to have their Relic weapon upgrade quest, hopefully not blasted with the copy/paste beam like Relic Reborn, but if they aren't retarded about it, no one is going to be able to just "Go right for" the upgrade just because they have the previous expansions relic weapon. They're going to have to progress towards being able to do it.

Sounds good!Checked with Yoshida-san.
While relic weapons are currently the most powerful, when we release weapons stronger than them, we plan on making it possible to enhance relic weapons. So with that said, keeping relic weapons as a base, we'll look into enhancements so that their stats can catch up to others if they lag behind.![]()

My take on this, being a relic owner in XI before cap increase, is that people are possibly more worried that with the increase and possible introduction of new "endgame" alternative weapons the same thing that happened with XI's relics will happen to XIV's relics. By this, I mean that you will soon find that your weapon, while once the best of the best, will end up being best of a niche. It might serve a specific purpose, but that might not be the purpose you expected out of it back when it was first released to the final end result.Checked with Yoshida-san.

Relic weapons in XI went through a lot of changes, but the biggest difference between them and XIV's weapons is that in XIV they do not give the user any special features that are invisible nor a unique ability. Instead for XIV they were made similar to XI's Mythic weapon line by which they complement the jobs existing abilities, but maintain highest dps also. To that extent XIV might not run into the same issues XI did with relic weapons. Well, aside from the fact you'll probably have some type of insane requirements in order to increase the stats of your weapon when they increase cap. I bet they utilize crystal tower or labyrinth with stringent speed runs or similar.
Then again I think it was a mistake for SE to even release relic weapons this early on since current cap is 50 and they already had plans to increase cap at some point. Generally you wouldn't add an endgame weapon like this unless you meant to keep a cap for an extended period of time (ala XI's 75 cap for nearly 6 years).

Well since its confirmed that relics will be the best weapons for 2.0.Checked with Yoshida-san.

Any chance that Titan drops something other than weapons? e.g. Titan Cuirass, Boots, Gauntlets, etc.
Or
Change the primal weapons to have pure elemental affinities. i.e. Ifrit's weapons do pure fire dmg, Garuda's weapons do pure wind dmg, etc. Instead of how elemental damage from the current primal weapons are just additional effects.
Relics could still be the best raw damage weapons and primal weapons would have the advantage when used correctly.
I enjoy that there will be weapons stronger than the base relics eventually, and that it will consequently make the pursuit of a relic much more important to the individual. Frankly, I think they shouldn't wait for weapons to "get better" though, especially with the way the current relics tend to be lacking for their effort. I think relic upgrading should be on its own dev schedule, and therefore impartial to whatever drops from the latest crystal tower floor or new dungeon.
agreed with tsubarta let the new weapons shine a bit then let relics upgrade at the devs leisure. we dont know what changed to the relic quest and some people wont bother with it so you gotta give the people that dont want relic equal weapon oportunity too. you cannot give hardcore all the good stuff and leave casuals behind. youll loose alot of the fan base just catering to hardcore.

I like this methodology. I just hope relics get exclusive weaponskills someday. And particle effects
