I'm not saying parents can't play the game. What I am saying is that an MMO can be a pretty time intensive commitment. Telling yourself that it's your escape from your kids or responsibilities is an excuse that just won't fly. Basically if you spend time in FFXIV that should actually be going to your kids, you're a bad parent. Claiming to have a 6th sense or believing that putting them in front of a TV or a computer will suffice as a replacement is a sign of trying to rationalize being a bad parent. Too many horrible children growing up these days because parents no longer feel a responsibility in investing actual time, parent with child, with their kids.

Raising them is not just feeding them and keeping them from being dead. I agree parents need "me" time. So send your children to grandma or something when you wanna game. Don't be that parent letting their child run loose so you can do what you want.

Even more so when there are unnecessary timers that force you to be glued to the computer, sure you can quit the game whenever and take care of your problims. but eventually people will stop inviting you, they'll push you out of groups because you always seem have Real life things to do when the going gets good even if its for 5 minutes i've seen it happen to alot of people in this game and its dirty.

I'd argue the timers no more glue you to your computer than the content itself does. If you can't have the time to sit there and do it, does it really matter that the game is showing you that in clock form? If timers went away, do you really believe people would be willing to enter an instance and then let you afk for 20 minutes while you take care of something? Personally, I wouldn't and it's not because I'm a selfish person.

My reasoning would be that everyone entering understands we all have a goal to achieve and we must be considerate of other players time. Some people play before they go to work or school and do things on a limited schedule. They shouldn't have to give up their goals because you feel the need to leave for 20 minutes right during the event. Let's face it, that 20 minutes lost could mean someone has to go before you do it; these things occur. It's selfish to ask people to give up their time for you like that, when everyone has their own life and things to do with their time. That reminds me how the timers serve a purpose of making sure you actually do what you're they're to do and get it done as a group with less time wasting.

It somehow forces you to be efficient, which isn't a bad thing.

Everybody has their opinon on which is selfish- I have to side that a timer is better for everyone (so long as that timer is a safety net not a challenge net*).

*Can be a challenge net for special situations like a cave being backed up with lava or something. But in general just something that can be a general guide line.

I've got things to do and I cant dedicate 4 hours for a 30 minute dungeon because everyone thinks its ok to afk. make the 30 minute dungeon have a 45 minute time limit and expect everyone to be ready (like we always have). If you are joining game content when you know you will need to do something in 5 minutes then maybe you should wait 5 minutes until you are ready.
