Keep the new content updates coming! We all need something to tide us over till 2.0 release. Great work, considering its built from the ground up and in such little time. Love the moogle mail courier <3

Gridania looks great for an alpha footage. New/Old Gridania makes sense, I'm guessing the impact wave will go that far and the only reason the old part will stay mostly unchanged is because it's deeper in the cliffs. I like how each area in the city has it's distinct look, it's a huge improvement compared to our current Gridania which has a fixed theme everywhere in the city.
The lighting still looks too harsh, but since it's an alpha build and we saw the huge changes in 1.0 alpha to beta (and since Yoshida said alpha is a frozen build), I'll wait till beta.
The lack of inertia/shuffling animations is, as already mentioned, pretty jarring to the eye. It would be a lot less noticeable if we didn't have them in the game atm, imho. But since we do, let's just hope they'll insert them back around beta.
Because we saw how 1.0 turned out. Oh and because we were asked to share our opinion. Also, see my sig. Not being aware of this fact will continue to ruin your mood on a regular basis.
edit:
That's just because of the low video bitrate. It is enough to give you good detail when not moving since there is not a lot of change in the scene, thus not so many bits required to code the frames. Once you move the camera, there is a lot of change in the scene, thus requiring many more bits to code it, but with a fixed bitrate it results in a image quality drop -> blurry image when turning.
The fact that after uploading the video to youtube, it is re-encoded on their servers doesn't help the quality either, since h264 is typically used in its lossy mode.

The Camera doesn't move around the character. Also Character feet doesn't move when your looking around. Pretty much at a stand still. There's small problem with Mini map. I can see cut out lines on the mini map.
sometimes you just gotta wonder if ppl even read up information beofre posting.
camera: if you just look at the last live letter you gonna notice that the char doesnt turn with the camera, so its most likely optionale, and sometimes even no bad thing when you play keyboard only. situational that is.
animations: no doubt they gonna get fixed until final release.... this is alpha stage ppl...
lively NPC's : and this got confirmed by yoshi already that they are working on a more lively NPC behaviour.
i can say for me: im pretty much excited and overall love the changes. gogo Yoshi!
if you dont aim for the impossible... possible wont happen
Like I said in my other post. People will complain about a cure for Cancer.sometimes you just gotta wonder if ppl even read up information beofre posting.

Welcome to The Locker!!
I'm (not) surprised how many people haven't learned anything from the 1.x fiasco.

...and it starts... First it's "guys it's just early alpha." Then it's "guys it's beta,I'm sure things will change/be fixed by open beta.". Then open beta comes around, "guys they didn't fix much but it's going to be completely done and amazing by release." We've all heard this before.
Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice shame on me. I have much respect for Yoshi-p and will continue to support his team but ever since I was so let down by 1.0 alpha through release,I don't make assumptions anymore. I'm hoping it's great but going in with low expectations this time around. I will however give it a try with a number of friends who have been waiting for 2 years.
more to the point, turning on the spot will not be what makes this game fail. stop acting like it will. it is a nice feature that would be a bonus if they had, true, but we had all those animations and pretty graphics at 1.0 launch, did that help it succeed?
If you look at the Alpha application you will see that players are warned that Alpha is not ARR. It is just a cobbled up piece of software that tests the servers. They put stuff from ARR i it to see what player reaction is.... it is still not ARR. If all goes well everyone will get to take a personal look at Alpha on the 26th of November (Alpha-3). If all goes well Beta will start around the beginning of February (everything is 2 months behind schedule). Beta is ARR. So wait for Beta to gripe at ARR.
I think Alpha is beautiful considering what it is and what it is not.
