Hi all! I'm very curious to know what you all think about the walk animation being cut like that without no transition between walking and standing? I mean, I have seen the character creation video in the alpha which relieved me of my fears of ARR beeing to cartoonish, though after seeing this gameplay (this is alpha phase so close to beta, I'm not sure they would change animation after this phase) when I see this animation, for me it makes it look as much as cartoonish as I didn't want ARR to be.

Does the animation annoys you? Wouldn't it look just better with the more "human" way of walking in FFXIV ? I'm sure it's not so hard to recycle the old walking animation and physics. It's just that I feel it really does make a different between a game that makes it better than all the other mmorpg. I believe a continuous/non choppy animation is needed for walking to standing transition. Right now it feels as much there's an animation absent in the character's movements.

Only then I'll finally be happy.
What are your thoughts people ?

I can only assume this isn't in because Alpha; but I refuse to start saying "It's alpha they will add it in before launch"... We have already been burned by that mentality before.

SE: Put in character movement for camera panning with a stationary character. No excuses.
Agreed. Unfortunately if you play any other MMO out there, in which this was heavily modeled after, this is always the case. Right Click and hold the mouse button, pan the camera and character at same time while he doesn't move. It's really odd and I don't know why more people aren't bothered by it. In fallout 3 they did this and I had to keep the camera zoom above his feet so I didn't notice it. Otherwise I couldn't play anymore.

Knowing how vocal players were about player-character animations makes the omission of interpolating (halting stop, turning from side to side, and finishing an action) animations all the more confusing.

Like everyone else I think it looks really good and its making me more excited to try it out, but also like others the animation while standing and turning the camera is eh. Don't like the Sliding I like how it is atm but sadly I dont think they are gonna change it.

But oh well I can get over it, it just looks weird lol (If I can get over jumping I can deal with this lol)

Well if they made all those changes to a place they said it was not gonna be much different than 1.0, i cant imagine how the new areas will look, im really looking forward to play 2.0, i loved how the shadowing works in this new version, the place looks more vivid i hope they add npc's that walk around town and outside areas to make it even more vivid, those little things helps a lot in the long run. especially if you dont find the quest npc in the same place all the time, like they have to keep moving to do their stuff.

i hope the transportation in 2.0 makes you actually walk to a lot of places, having less atherythe points so we can enjoy the trip.

Would be kind of interesting if the character's head turned with the camera instead of the whole body. That would look more natural, seeing as they have a neck. Anyways, my favorite afk spot behind the carpenters guild looks intact. Really happy about that

The sliding and the camera locked on the back bother me a little, and with a toggle the latter is easily fixed, but hey, looks good so far. Can't wait to get my hands on the game, though now I get the feeling I'll be hanging around in Grid more in 2.0. No problem with that, I like Grid.

I agree on all what been said about animation. It's like there is no physics at all!
Funny thing is after 2 years there is no MMORPG that can compete with XIV 1.0 in character animation field. Why re-invent it?
I'm really worried about this since last live letter. Hoping it's just Alpha thing.

Love the music but my gripe would be:

    1. I would hope for more lighting effects so that I can really feel I'm in the middle of a forest with sun shining through the leaves down to the forest floor. In turn I would hope at nighttime, I would need to rely on the street lighting and lamps scattered around the city, and the Aetheryte should give off a glow.

    2. Needs more life. Can hear lots of birds chirping but dont see any flying around for ambience. Also see no wildlife, would be a nice touch to have some antelopes waltz through the town every now and again. Likewise, there appears to be no npc society/community. The city should have a life of its own and not be reliant on players. We're supposed to be adventurers afterall so we're just passing through. And what is there is static.

    3. Doesnt feel like there is enough foilage/shrubs/trees within where the player walks. Yes theres lots of massive trees in the background, but it should feel like you are within a forest, not in a plaza with forest on the edge of the map.

    4. I like the contrast between the aethryte area and the lead up to the conjurer guild, gives off a different vibe due to the colour. Would be nice to get more of those contrasts throughout the city.

    5. Also, would be immersive and help to keep things fresh if we could experience seasons within these areas in game.

    6. The gates are annoying given they open backwards into you instead of forward.

    7. Lots of water by the moogle but not enough elsewhere (mostly just put into the background and not immersed in the playable area). Would be nice with trickles of water flowing down the sides of mountains through the streets, with all the associated splashes as you run through it.

    8. Guilds seem too self contained. Everything is too tidy, there should be masses of raw materials etc lying around outside the guild buildings again for ambience. Shouldnt have to look at the guild sign to know what is there.
