    I agree though, personally I'd prefer a 1-shot SMN class. I loved it. They should cost lots of MP but be worth every one! If they do the perma-pet route then fine, it won't stop me playing it, but I'd like to see them returning to 'the old ways' =)

    BTW, If they take the 1-shot path, I'd like to have a wide selection of summons (like FFVI), offensive, defensive, buffing, debuffing, etc.

    In fact, with ARR's battle changes, each summon could have 2 moves... 1 normal attack/buff/etc, and 1 uber attack for Limit Break.

    I hope they change the fixed level ability gain system thing they have going on. Like every 4 levels you gain a different ability... DoW will run out of things to learn and DoM will be restricted, to a certain extent =/ Because I'd definitely love to see a wide range of Essences available, would make battles a lot more fun and 'free', throwing out the odd Sylph when multiple people are wounded or casting a different Primal at random times because Ifrit > Ifrit > Ifrit > Ifrit would get so dull.

    First of all, thanks OP for making this thread.... It is fun to read everyone's opinion on how the job will turn out to be. Everybody has a point especially given the little information we have at the moment. However; I remember them saying that each "summon" would have a different role, so how do you think it would play out if they went the "one-shot" path?

    And yeah, it's a good point about the 'roles'. I hadn't really though about it when I started the thread, so my opinions have changed a little. I said earlier about how, if they were permanent pets, maybe they'd be 'melee DD/support mage/nuke mage' etc, but that's kinda making the 1-shot idea obsolete >.>

    The only think I can think to justify it is if they meant their role was different to Carby in the sense that they WERE just 1-shot, whereas Carby stayed out? If that makes sense?

    But to be honest I'm starting to think that they are going to be perma-pets, but since Yoshi said he didn't want people running around with their "own personal Primal" out it makes me curious as to how they might maintain it. *Excited*

    I used to be convinced that summoner was gonna turn out to be a perma-pet job, and at the time my main question was what the "summons" would look like. From the description, the artwork and the alternate free company summoning system, I doubted they would look like the primals (like how the avatars were smaller versions of their prime). So if we were to assume they'd be perma-pets, what do you think they'd look like? Ethearal form? A completely different summon imbued with a primal essence? Just curious as to what you guys think about that....

    Hadn't even considered that >.> I guess I kinda assumed they'd be smaller version of the Primals, although now I actually think about it I've had a picture of a rather "animalistic" image of Ifrit running around on all fours. So I guess I'd kinda like to see them as similar to the Primals, keeping their main features, but just making them look a bit more feral. Ifrit running around like a hell-hound, Leviathan slithering along the floor, for example. I guess if you could imagine like a "Previous evolution" in a Pokémon world, or something >.>

    This is what i was trying to say a few pages back. I am going to x fingers for chupon. He is wind based (or was in ff vi). So the summoner will somehow transmute the essence of garuda into him? Just a thought

    Seems to me like we will get lesser spirits instead of the primals. This would still allow for the whole primal story and not cheapen them (which to me makes sense from an immersion standpoint). But at the same time we could still have these lesser spirits.

    Alot can be said forboth sides of this debate. Pet class won the player's poll, and yoshi has never made it a secret he was a smn in ffxi. However he did say he didnt want people walking around with primals. Im hoping for a true pet class, as ive been hoarding gear and materia for it since they revealed it.

    I want them to be pets; the FFXI system was great. Your pets should be the source of your power, not you. This garbage they're doing in MMORPGs nowadays (WoW etc) where the pet is a "side thing" that does 10% of your damage is dumb. The pet should be everything as a summoner; it is your power.

    well i cant really imagine that a summoner is really fun to play or to watch if the pets are going to be "one-shots". so in battle against shiva for example a summoner is casting ifrit for over 40 > times... wouldnt be this annoying? ;XD it would be constantly used like a regular fire spell from a black mage.

    but as you said, time will tell.
