    Sum-nom-nom-eners~

    Woo first post!

I just thought I'd chime in with my own speculation about Summoner and their abilities since people keep asking about -how- they learn how to summon the Primals' "essence" in the first place.

I've seen lots of people asking but no-one seems to have covered this (although I may have just blanked it completely )

In the previous Live letter (I think it was there) we were told that SMN could call 4 Primals to help in battle, which people seemed to think was limiting and silly... I thought it was really the only way.

If they're doing SMN like every other DoW/M then it'll learn 5 job-specific abilities, right? Well if one of them is a 15-minute CD move, then the other 4 will be single attacks that stem from each of the Primals. Well, that's just my speculation. In which case, they way you obtain the move would be via a job-quest, just like how you would acquire Jump, Ballad or Holy.

Because of this, I doubt SMN will work like it did in XI in any way (It might, but I wouldn't complain if it was different... I like change). Did anyone play Dissida 012[Duodecim]? I think they way SMN will play, in regards to Primal moves, will be very similar to Yuna, in that the Primal will come out for 1 move and then retreat.

But that's just how I imagine it being, I might be completely wrong...

I'm pretty sure that 'learning' the Primals will be as I mentioned though, and killing them in generic Primal battles isn't enough to obtain their respective move... would be silly!

But yeah, let me know if anyone disagrees. Like I said, this is just my speculation

They already confirmed Summoners will have 4 pets, each a different element (only confirmed are Fire and Wind).

    Beyond that, dunno.

Well, it fits the other jobs' structure of having 5 job-specific abilities, one of which being 15-minutes.
But yeah, it's all a little shrouded =/

Yep. But they (hopefully/probably) meant that at level 50, smn will have moves from 4 primals, and if/when level cap increases, there will be more. And OP, that's basically what I thought when I heard/read it.

Crevox said it was confirmed too, but to be honest I can't remember -where- it was confirmed. May have been a later interview if not on Live Letter III

So what your saying is the current trend of four short-term CD moves and one long-term CD move fits with the speculation of SMNs' pets— four confirmed— being summoned for only an attack and then retreat immediately?

It's a good catch, but abilities are being revamped in 2.0, so who knows what kind of actions we'll see when we sign in next year. They could go the way of XI where pets drain MP while you keep them out, or they could go the way of every other FF where pets are considered their own attack and consume MP/some status before vanishing.

Pretty much! But yeah, I understand what you're saying about revamping the ability system though... especially since they're changing spells and WSs to sharing the same recast timers (3 seconds, iirc?). But as far as I'm aware abilities themselves are keeping unique CDs, so the 15-minute skills might not be altered much.

I really hope they abandon this rigid structure they have set up. Why does every job have to have five abilities? Why do they all progress with the same set of quests? Summoners should have as many skills as there are summons to obtain, with an individual quest and fight for each. Future jobs need to branch out and develop in unique ways, otherwise I see this getting dull really quickly

Yeah, it's a little tedious and repetitive, but I doubt they'll change that =/
To be honest, I miss having to buy spells and stuff; if anything it added an extra bit of content... I'm curious as to how they'll do Blue Mage, if they ever add it
