Well this mixture comes pretty much close to the SCH we've had in FFXI. Dependand on the situation you picked your bonuses for White magic or Black magic.

I do like the advancing classes idea but.... I don't like the fact that those "old" classes are not going to be played anymore. Let's say they really implement the specialization to WHM and BLM. Noone will ever play CON or THM again. Since you always want to max out your jobs.

If you got an event running and you need a mainhealer. Pick the WHM with higher cure potency and less MP cost/spell or pick the CON who can access both WHM and BLM spells?

I dunno.. the balancing is really going to be hard unless SE has already a plan how to do it and only need some tweaking in the end.

I want new update notes already damn it xD

I am against this idea, i would rather have the classic classes be added than renaming. I dont for example want conjurer to become whm. Then why would i roll it at all? Make blm with fire, fira 1 2, firaga 1 2, maybe even a special attack withh firaja etc thats my thought at least

Final Fantasy Tactics method of unlocking classes would be a very interesting way to roll. I would definitely love it.

I personally don't see a huge issue with the class name changes, I'm just more concerned with the classes just being more unique from each other. Please give something that defines the classes. Show what makes Lancers different from Marauder other than weapons. Same with Pugilist. While I support "customizing your own class", I feel that each class needs more unique abilities to just..define themselves.

Another vote for the FF:T idea. And if the combat was more FF:T like in general, that'd be cool.

You can't just make a pugilist into a monk with a name change. The guild is a boxing gym that's practically part of an arena with a ticketing office. Wouldn't they have to make a whole new guild anyway? And wouldn't it be a temple off in the middle of nowhere or something? I wouldn't mind if they called it "Boxer" instead though.

Boxers should have stances...what happened to that?

    1) Boxing stance - good for evading, counter punching, stunning
    2) In-fighting stance - Dempsy roll! You square up close and do damage, but you're still moving in and out and left and right.
    3) puncher's stance - you're just going to get in there and do damage. Getting back out to avoid damage? Forget it.

That's the basic rock-paper-scissors of real, basic boxing styles btw. Boxer beats puncher. In-fighter beats boxer. Puncher beats in-fighter.

Point being, there should be no difficulty making the pugilist/boxer class be unique from monk. The real sport/style has plenty of lore and is unique enough to fill up an action bar.

Except that they aren't boxers, they're loan sharks who are involved in martial arts. I believe they are involved with gambling and psychic readings or something, been a while since I did the quests.

Personally, I have no attachment to the current class names. I think FFXIV has compelling style, gameplay, lore etc. and has distinguished itself apart from the other FF games sufficiently - but perhaps has gone a little too far. I'd like to see more of the game introduce some tradtional FF elements - and class names, I would love to be a part of that :-)

Yet another vote for the FF Tactics approach. Give us our beloved
monks, white mages and paladins as advanced classes, attach some
"unlock" quests to the process, and you'll instantly win back 50% of
those who already left the game.

Out of the two options presented by Naoki Yoshida, Advanced Jobs would be the most welcomed by the community and least difficult to balance with existing classes, and other advanced classes. Using the mechanics of Final Fantasy Tactics, with unlocking quests from Final Fantasy XI would be the most efficient way to implement traditional job names.

And we don't have to call them "advanced" classes. That implies that they are superior to the starter classes. I prefer the D&D approach, and calling them "prestige" classes. That neutralizes the perception that they are superior by default.

I'm totally in favor of the Advanced class system with unlock quests and stuff.

And for basic classes such conjurer/thau/mara etc.. give some sort of "capstone" (just like DDO).

A skill, or set of skills, or trait, unlockable only at level 50 and usable only when in that specific class. Something "powerful" and meaningful that can lead a player to say : "ok this time i'm gonna be conjurer because i REALLY need that awesome spell/trait".
