    but it would be much better than the current system, imo. you should be able to switch your class/job, not have ONE class that has every single ability from other jobs.

    and the ff:xi system, worked great. so do alot of other systems in other games too. but what you're implying in your thread, wouldn't work. mainly because in about a month there will be the "cookie-cutter" build you're supposed to be, and your entire arguement is moot.

    It doesn't matter what you do to the class system there will always be people who cookie-cutter. You can't stop that.

    I have to thank Square-Enix for the amazing job they have done recreating Final Fantasy XIV from Scratch. Especially the inclusion of Missing Genders which we petitioned for in good faith. This was proof to us players that the Developers are truly Sympathetic to our requests and that being honest and vocal can pay off with the amazing characters we have who are Female Roegadyn, Male Miqote, and Female Highlanders.     well, than what you're saying makes way less sense (in the long run) than what alot of other people are suggesting. if you know generic class/job combinations are inevitable why are you fighting for them? why not just let it be a traditional final fantasy class name that accomplishes the same thing you're suggesting?

    My system augments the current Class System with an additional Job System. Not revamp the entire system to just be a generic Job system.

    In my system any Class (Which you should only look as being a Weapon Specialist not a class in the generic sense placed in games like WoW) can be Any Job, allowing for near infinity customization for an individual to chose what he wants to be.

    Any restrictions at that point should be placed by the players not the game developer. If I want to play as a Lancer Paladin I should be able too, not restricted to Sword and Board.


    Lets put it this way. With my system

    Classes = Weapons
    Jobs = Hats

    Any Hat can be equipped with any Weapon and Vis Versa.

    In your system we change everyones weapon into a hat and take their weapons away. :P

    I'm not in favor of any changes to the names of the current classes. I actually like the name and the concept of each Class, regardless of the connections to Jobs in FFXI. The level of customization and creativity that I can put into building my Marauder class is fun to me because I don't feel like I'm forced to play or develop into a specific role.

    The Class system, in addition to the swapping of actions, adds much more customization and exploration of battle tactics than would be available if everything changed to the Job system in FFXI. I'm able to tinker with different actions for different situations, on the fly, to get rapid results. The change either had an effect on battle, or it didn't. Having the actual name of the class changed to "Warrior" is purely aesthetic and does not affect game mechanics at all.

    The argument against the above is probably "Then the name 'Marauder' is purely aesthetic as well." And you're right, it is. And it's also more specific to me than just "Warrior". A Warrior in FFXI could use multiple arms, with some having a higher rating for effectiveness than others. It was too generic for my taste.

    For FFXIV, there's something about the specificity of using an Axe and Francisca to engage in combat; with the Action customization being open to my imagination. It goes beyond even the limitation of FFXI's Job/Subjob, which is only two options. With the current system, I can have 6 additional options. Much more fun and engaging to me.

    The name for Marauader in Japanese is just Axe User. All of the names in Japanese are just "Weapon Name User"

    The classes have to be changed as far as mages go. CNJ and THM are so vague in roles that they are nearly always used as either the same job or support skills/spells for soloist.

    A lot of people I have talked to want the jobs to be traditional because that helps define their capabilities more.

    A sidenote on Advance jobs: I think advanced job abilities are going to have to be class specific only. Can't have everyone running around summoning Ifrit or Ninjas charming raptors like. Beastmaster. If basic classes need utilities from advanced j

    The previous statement kinda ties into class name changes. Here's why: the main point is that roles are better appreciated when they are distinct and memorable. This doesn't mean we can't still have versatility.
