I would be up for the addition of adding classic Final Fantasy classes (others from V, Tactics series, and perhaps Four heroes of light) in the form of advanced classes as well. The current classes really dont match any specific job, so branching them off in advanced class paths would be best.

Gladiator: A tanking class with sword and board is a defender, a paladin, etc. Not a 'gladiator'
Lancer: is acceptable due to the removal of the wyvern aspect.
Archer/Ranger: works for me as well. Pugilist/Monk either way doesn't bother me.
Thaumaturge: wtf is a thaumaturge? It's a friggin Red Mage
    Maurader: No issues

As long as they make the classes (current and new) more unique and their abilities more interesting, I don't care what they're called!

When Tanaka had mentioned the idea of a "Samurai Title" in an pre-release interview awhile back, I thought this was maybe how it would work. Such as a Gladiator equipping a certain number of abilities (maybe from various classes) and / or met a certain minimum attributes (e.g. 80 STR, 80 VIT), then you could start using a Samurai sword and learn its techniques.

But maybe that would be too complicated, I'm not sure.

I'm much more in line with the ability trees. Like with the merit system, only from a much lower level. I like the current naming, but having trees that branch would be nice.

Plus we have lots of final fantasy systems to work with and draw from. But let's say we take out physical levels. Now, instead of physical points, let's say we start getting, MRD points or something. When you rank up, you can go down the Warrior Path or the Dark Knight Path. If you go down Dark Knight, you learn more magic, and abilities that boost power by sacrificing HP. Then if you go down Warrior, you learn more physical attacks and tanking skills.

Meanwhile, in turns of Conjurer, you can go down Black Mage or White Mage paths, but at the same time, you're also present with options about whether to balance your elemental abilities or go solid into one element, while for White Mage path, you have options between improving your healing effectiveness or learning more protective skills.

The other option I like is that if you arm up with a certain balance of abilities and skills from other classes, your class changes. Such as if you equip a sword, and have Red Lotus, Phalanx, Rampart, Cure, and Protect, your class becomes Paladin, and then you get access to certain gear (which for the sake of things, instead of taking it off you should you remove your abilities causes you to stop receiving a bonus from it like "When Paladin: +5 VIT, +10 DEF, +100 HP"

You could also do something like the XII License Board or the X Sphere Grid, or the XIII Crysterium. Then you could buy abilities for your class using points, and then later buy more action points to use them.

You can also add a lot more class specific options.

You could compare the traditional name change to just FFXI, but it is really more a traditional Final Fantasy naming scheme period, not including 13. Many different FF games have had white mage, black mage, Etc. And any true FF fan would like to continue seeing these names. Plus you can make really funny jokes about each of them.

I'm not hung up on names so much. I would like to see the classic archetypes though. I kinda like the idea of the current classes having paths or trees they can follow to be more specialized. Like Gld >> Pld for instance, though I wouldnt care if they called the class Traditional Tank or Super Meat, just as long as it still was basically Paladin.

And, out of the two ideas Yoshi-P mentioned in his recent interview on eorzeapedia, I prefer the advanced job option, similar to FFXI. Make the classic FF jobs available when certain conditions are met. Possibly a Final Fantasy Tactics-like system. For example, in order to unlock Paladin, you need Gladiator 30 and Conjurer 20. Then maybe you would be able to flag a quest to finally unlock the job.

Edit: Sorry, I should have made this more clear, I'm not for changing the current class names to classic Final Fantasy class names. What I'm asking for is the addition of classic FF classes to the ones we have now.
Add one more to the list of those who think this would be an awesome way to implement new classes/class names.

Ok so they take the FFT route and people start playing advanced classes... What happens to the old classes? That is the biggest flaw with this proposal.

All you're doing with this is introducing new classes into the game without fixing the current problems. That is more work and doesn't resolve the underlying issue; class uniqueness. It's as stupid as the people asking for Arcanist and Musketeer totally oblivious to the fact that we have two entire disciplines that do not work.

Branching off into specs is the better approach unfortunately.

Those classes continue to progress. When Paladin was made available in FFXI, players did not stop playing Warrior. Warrior continued to progress, as did Paladin.
