I don't really want them to change the names of classes, just make something meanigfull out of them pls
I'm pretty much in agreement with this concept... just changing the actual class names to old FF class names would amount to nothing at this point.
I'd love to see them open up more class advancement possibilities though. For instance, after reaching rank 30-50 Conjurer, a player can access a new quest-chain to unlock a more advanced or specialized caster class (Summoner, "Red Mage", etc.), Thaumaturge could explore options as maybe a Philosopher, Priest, or more dark-magic oriented class (Warlock, Black Mage, etc.), Marauders could explore options as different weapon-master classes or possibly more Lore-oriented classes, etc...

Changes to existing classes are needed for the advanced class system, as a THM I'm TOTALLY open to it, my class is boring. I press sac II most of the time and my enfeebles don't matter. To implement a RDM something that is overpowering in my opinion even in XI sometimes (but so awesome), they would need to toughen up mobs to even make enfeebles matter. Peistes and high level leves (faction leves) are the only mobs that really react to my enfeebles (and efts), but the game is based around leveling on mobs that die is 30 secs. So I want an advanced class system but the mobs would have to change to be able to last to some of the jobs in XI just in theory.

Class name change for classic is not something i want and is not important at all. I'm in favor for the Advance Class system with those classic names on it.

Class Name changes would probably be difficult to implement... However, new classes with the old names would work well.
I'll always be a Black Mage or Summoner, and the old class names are synomous with Final Fantasy, so can we have some of that old FF feel back please? I would love to Menchi Tide the Black Mage someday =]
Or introduce talent trees.
Conjurer would have the Black Mage tree and the White Mage tree.
Thaumaturge gets Red Mage and Time Mage. Or Time Mage and Summoner, as the latter might actually fit the lore.
Pugilist gets Monk and Thief.
Gladiator gets Warrior and Paladin.
Archer gets Ranger and Corsair.
Marauder gets Dark Knight and...something.
Lancer gets Dragoon and Pole Dancer.
Basically, you get to specialize in a tree, or take some from both. Spend enough points in a tree, and get a specialization bonus.

I think that they could make the advanced classes without removing or limiting the base classes. Why not keep, for example, Thaum and Conj as perfectly useable classes. Solo players will require these universal classes anyways. Even if you could move onto an advanced class R30 Conj + R20 Thaum =' White Mage. This would be a specialized healing class. (some of the skills say Requires: Lancer etc anyways, just update the skill to say Requires: Conj or White Mage) This leaves a ton of room for future classes as well. R30 White Mage + R40 Conj ='s White Sorcerer, or even R50 Conj ='s Sorcerer.
The weapons could be unique to the new classes, or they could swap over from other classes. How could they make it a smooth change to select your advance class? It would be easy with unique weapons of course, same system as we have now. But how could they do it with existing weapon types? ...
.....They could have class selection instead of automatically switching when the weapon is equipped. Click Class Selection, It can ask you to select the type of weapon you want to use. If you don't have the proper weapon in your inventory then you can't complete the class change. That would be cool, cause then different classes could use a couple types of weapons.
Adding the old FF classes would mean a complete overhaul on every unit in the game thus far. . . . Which I don't think people would be opposed to. Personally, either you do the overhaul and rename the classes, or just accept the classes are fail and move on.
The idea of having classes start out as lets say a Pugilist or a Thaumaturge and then through out the game eventually graduate into a traditional class name(Monk and or Red mage) would totally go along with the Final Fantasy franchise and fit perfectly with the gameit terms of how it should play out. But the challenge is then setting the appropriate abilities and weapon selection for the class you hope to become. you want to feel like a PLD MNK or RDM but you dont want the game to be a exact replica of FFXI.. or do you?? Maybe having some tradtional abilities mixed in with some new ones.. But see where does the customization of class abilities fit in with this?
