You should realize by now current players aren't SE's target for ARR. We just get the benefit of no data wipe. They're not remaking this MMO for less than 17k people based on the stats the JP players are keeping track of.

We just had the "last" game save. Dalamuds' impact is in 9 days. Now we won't see 2.0 for 6 months.

I was under the impression (I can't quite remember where I got this impression, though) that it isn't 6-months real-time in game but rather several years in the future, and that we're being awoken from some sort of slumber.

I could be entirely wrong. Again I don't recall where I got that impression. I do recall one of the promo videos, specifically the one we did for the voice-over contest, talking about the bravest among us being "spared" -- that doesn't suggest we survived by freak accident, though I'm not sure how the survival happens in specific.
